GM and Chrysler Will Get $17.4 Billion in U.S. Loans to Survive

Dec. 19 (Bloomberg) -- General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC will get $13.4 billion in government loans to keep operating in exchange for a restructuring under a rescue plan that President George W. Bush will announce this morning.
The money will be drawn from the Troubled Asset Relief Program and the automakers will get an additional $4 billion from the fund in February, according to a statement from the Bush administration. The money would allow GM and Chrysler to keep operating until March.
Under the terms of the plan, if the companies can’t demonstrate financial viability by March 31 the loans will be called and the money must be returned, the statement said.
Bush is scheduled to announce the plan at 9 a.m. Washington time from the White House.

Yeah, along with all the others millions and millions the gov't wastes avery year.
Now, uncle sam has this industry by the balls and there will be some serious concessions by everyone as the gov't dictates,labor,suppiers,dealers etc., not going to be pretty.

Why not let the government manage this industry and all other industries for that matter. They do such a fabulous job managing everything else! Our government is a model of efficiency!

fuzo...your tax dollars got smoked with the 700billion the banks are sitting on!!! i'd rather help save a few million jobs then to give bankers more bonus money!

the government having ANYTHING to do with the auto industry is gonna be a fukin mess...y'all whining about 17billion??! LMFAO!!!! wait till the government pulls the strings and then decides to dump 100's of billions into it!!! i wish i was an auto worker now!!! it'd be like a goverment job!!

here is how I see it

Until something replaces the WHEEL to facilitate transportation of both the individual and the masses

Well, we ain't got no choice

we gotta have wheels man

if we let em go bye bye and four years from all's we got is broke back mountain wheels

ie, a bunch of over priced used vehicles because they are scarce folks will then be in pitchfork mode

when it comes to save american jobs and business, people complain

when it comes spending trillions for a binch of smelly camel jockey ****er in Iraq thats ok!

the MARKET CANNOT REGULATES ITSELF

i'm just soooo jacked!!! they got 17bil!!! now they can buy new planes, get their bonus money, and the banks STILL dont have to loan money for new car loans. the banks still aint gotta loan money bank to buisness so biz's canb keep operating!!
