Phuk it, change your name to Body Plex or Body Shop or something. That's one thing I hated about that industry. We used to have these this one gym in ATL and there was like 28 of them so no matter where you were in town, you could hit the gym. Then, LA Fitness comes in and buys all of them. Then, they add like four more and in the contracts they had this very clever mileage disclosure that stated if the gym were to close and they could offer you another one within so many miles you could NOT cancel. So, then they build like 6 super clubs. The strategically place these 6 amongst the 32 and then close the 32 and all the members from 32 gyms are forced to go to these 6 gyms. It was a total money maker but if sucked for the members. You go to most gyms at night and it's hard to get a bench, now imagine having 6 times the number of people trying to workout at the same time. Even thought eh super clubs were huge, they weren't 6 times bigger. LA Fitness made a killing off of this.

I can go on and on about stuff these big companies do. There is something to be said about name recognition but in a small town, people will support small business owners. Besides, it's not like WG let's you workout for free. I used to be a GM at one here in Colorado and when I went back to ATL for the holidays I went to a WG and the phuker told me I had to pay a drop in fee. Can you believe that ****? I GM one of their clubs and this franchise club would not let me workout. That's one thing I hate about franchising, you have no idea how you will be treated from club to club.

I would do some homework pick your own name and then join those groups. If you are a member of one of those groups, other gyms will let your members workout for free. It would be cheaper to join 5 of those groups than to pay 10% to a franchise, way cheaper.

Another thing, let's say you do this and you pay for all this stuff to be changed like your sign, work shirts, everything and then a year later Gold's Gym buys out Planet Fitness. You have to go through the whole thing all over again. Golds, the last time I checked, had more gyms than anyone with over 500. That would be the name I chose because they would cost the most to be bought out. But, be careful with those phukers too. Here where I live they had a guy who 'said' he would open 5 Gold's in the area and they called my bro who owned the only Gold's Gym in town and told him they lost his contract. They said he would have to find his copy (he had the name for 15 years) or else he would have to sign a new one. Well, he couldn't find his and the new one basically doubled all his fees and all this other crap. It was a total **** scam. But, my bro got the last laugh because this so called 5 gym guy still only has one gym and he's struggling to keep that one open and my bro no longer pays any royalty fees. So, he's making more money than he was. He calls his gym "Flex Gym & Fitness". Nothing fancy, just to the point. It's a gym, so there's no need to get all fancy.

      Planet Fitness generally sucks.
They DO NOT want any hardcore lifters at all.
They have signs in most with "NO GRUNTING" and the like.
It's pretty ridiculous considering the amount and type of equipment most have. If they don't want hardcore lifters then get rid of the equipment and get some more balloon balls.

I work out at a Worlds Gym in eastern NC. Have talked to the owener about the situation. He says he will drop his contract with them if they start to many changes that would have an adverse effect on our members.
He does not agree with them at all. Says he will change then name and become an independent gym owner.
We do have enough members to support it even if he does change the name.
Push it, Pull it, Rack it. Repeat untill wide!!

What sucks is, if Planet Fitness buys World Gym, they will own the rights the that name and he will be forced to remove it from the building and such. No matter what, the name has to change.....unless....no I'm sure they would own the Copyrights to the name too when they buy it.

That does suck. I have never joined a World Gym - well I did for a few days, never went, and then cancelled. Its a long story as to why . . . but I did join a Planet Fitness in Mass. It was OK. It was kind of a "family gym" if you know what I mean. There were not any "NO GRUNTING" signs, but the whole gym was limited to two smith machines and just a couple freeweight benches (one incline, one flat, one decline). The rest were all machines. The had a daycare, a machine circuit for the ladies, a biking room, an areobics room, and half the gym was dedicated to cardio. It was OK - it was nice. No major complaints.

But if I was you, I would be hesitant to convert to the kind of gym that T-man and Rolls are describing . . . I would certainly never join one like that myself. That really sucks if you like traditional freeweight gyms that are all about lifting, and not the poser perks like smoothie bars and apparel shops and 1000 cardio machines . . .

It's up to you space. You have to do what you have to do to survive. But if given the choice I would maybe try to hook on with another franchise, or go independant. By the way, if you do have any good WG T-shirts left I want my name on the list too!

I don`t know about how the contracting arrangements are set up but if it were at all possible to make equal or more money. I`d go independant and make the type of gym that your members want it to be.

I hate places that are like one big recreation center.I use to sell memberships for Golds Gym and I had to compete with the new "state of the art" LA Fitness and the ever so popular Lifestyles.I had just the time of my life trying to convince casual weightlifters that if they want a place that is serious about reaching your fitness goals with all the capable equipment you need then join Golds.Anyways it was more of a headache than it was worth. The gym business is shady but these recreation centers suck and they lure alot of people that want the fanciest looking locker rooms.

there are two planet fitness gyms within 10 miles of where i live. i almost considered switching gyms since mine opened at 4:30 and the pf's were going 24 hours. i checked out the one closest to me and it seemed like a good deal, $14.99 a month and another $5 a month for unlimited tanning. once there they have a big mural with a kind of caricature of a big musclehead with "no judgement zone" logos and you can't swear, grunt loudly, drop weights, wear tanktops or generally do anything that might be "intimidating" or judgemental to any members. They generally frown upon peole deadlifting or engaging in any "lunking" behavior typical of "muscleheads". My gym decided to open at 4AM so i get an extra half hour to train before work and even though it's $40 a month it is far superior to that bullshiot, pu$$y environment known as planet fitness.
You may not recognize your mom when you get home, I shaved her back.

I don't have an ego, i just love how awesome i am !!
