I would even venture to say that even the Jags are now lower in quality because of it. Lets put it this way, if you are going to lease.... yeah doesn't matter what you get, but if you are buying out right go for quality and better materials with durability. Tell me then why are Fords market down when alot of the imports are up? There is a reason for it. The only ppl i know where i live that have the Fords are ppl that work for them or lease. Hell my brother-in-law has worked for Ford almost 30yr now and always has a Ford, but its because of the discounts he gets for working for them.
ok...we were not talking about "luxury" imports...yes i agree, the beemer is a higher quality car (it should be, it cost alot more) i like the jag (your right about jags quality issues in the past, but they've come up alot) certain volvo's and merc. the escalade is a very well built truck ( you do realize it's a gm, right...lol). but, i was referring to affordable transportation...and as far as that goes, there is (imho) no better bang for the buck, than the ford taurus. none.
ford market share down??? let's see...could it be becouse they have some of the least appealing vehicles in the market place? what do they have??!! the 500??!! ugly as it gets. the crown vic??! yea, i wanna look like a cop. the focus is just ok (and i think you sell that car a little short), but too small. the fusion seems to be a step in the right direction (but, they still have to refine it). they're marketing also sux!!! they've poured everything into the f series truck (even you cant deny it's a hell of a truck) and threw the rest ( with the exception of the mustang, another very nice ride) to the curb. and gm has quite a few nice rides as well... quality issues have been addressed across the board by all the domestic lines....i still say, watch what the future holds as toyota starts racking up the recalls!! i'm not just waving a banner for ford mick...

Mazda, what model? Daved, lol I did say GM b4 i said i owned a Cad Escl, lol! I know you are a Ford man, so talking to you is like talking to my brother-in-law, lol! It also depends on what price range you are looking at. If you are spending like 25K on a car, which i would say is average for the typical middle class homeowner. Id still have to say you can get a much better quality vehicle in an import and even knowing that alot are built in usa, they have dif specs and their philosophies are much dif then in the american plants, even the imports plants where they build them in usa. They instill this philosophy and is actually a part of their work ethic and strategy they use with their employees. Btw, the Taurus is comming back i hear.

From what I see, Saturn has NO resale value whatsoever. Honda and Nissan have the best resale values. GENERALLY, Honda's will run 300,000 before they die. A Honda might be the best for the money.
But the offer is still available to move in with me and I'll but you a car . BTW- Can you make sushi?

Don't get the Ti models as they can't get out of their own way. They actually accelrate slower than most full size SUV's! The IS models however are very quick, and handle amazingly. If you can spring for an IS, I'd go for that. Keep in mind though that BMW's have bulletproof engines & trannys, but they are known for electrical issues. We got rid of our IS because the electrical stuff was nickeling and diming us to death!

Stay away from Fords! There bread and butter is trucks & mustangs. Everything else by them sucks!

GM is average depending on what you get.

      02 and older dodges suck!

Honda's are no more dependable than american cars. That's just a myth. I can name 6 people off the top of my head that bought into the whole Honda reliability factor, and said that car is always in the shop!

Toyota's are ugly as sin, but reliable as can be! That's why they are dominating the auto industry right now! Maybe a Celica would be in your price range.

VW's have gotten horrible reviews for the last ten years!

Volvo's are quick (if you get the turbo model) and safe. Year after year they end up in the top picks for safety! You can pick up an 00 or newer S40 for around your price range. It's a pretty nice car for the price.

Mazda's (although part of Ford Corporation) are pretty reliable, and I've owned two myself. One needed a new transmission at 150k miles and ran strong still after. I sold it and ran into the person a year later and it was at 190k miles and they said they added nothing to it since they bought it.

My wife also had one and loved hers also.

Stay away from the 90's version of the MX6 though because it was very problematic!

Dude I had a new Taurus for a rental and that thing couldn't get out of it's own way. It's not like the old school Taurus that was reliable and fast. late 90's to the current model all were slow as balls! Also I've talked to many people that had transmission problems with it at like 60k miles! Not a big surprise though, Ford has horrible transmissions!

My Focus ZX3 went through 2 transmissions by 40k miles, my Mazda had a bad transmission at 150k (granted is ok, but still Ford and the transmission failed), Probe's (which are a MX6 with a different body) have known transmission issues, the Taurus has known transmission issues, The Mustang is known to have trouble with 3rd gear alot. Do you see a trend here?

That's the same car my wife has only hers is white. Only thing I advise with it is make sure you get the turbo model. Trust me when you need to pass someone, or merge onto a highway you'll wish you had it! We've had good luck with ours though and the safety features on that car are amazing!

If that car is the turbo model, then that price is just about right. If not then they are overcharging.

Here's one for 2K more than the last one you listed, but it has 50k less miles, is a turbo model, and has every available option! For an extra 2k that is definitely worth it!

dude...your thinking chrysler!! tranny prob's....the ford taurus, since 1990 has has 84 recalls...the honda civic, since 1990, has 160! tha honda accord. since 1990, 179. the overall cost of ownership for a taurus id lower than any other usedcar. i dont know how you got lucky enough to have all those prob's with a current model taurus...the body has been the same since 96, the weight, basicly the same, and i dont know anyone that really complains about the power unless they are used to driving a v-8....also, since 2000 the focus has had 39 recalls. the civic? 59! the accord? 66. and the mustang??? what are you talking about there??! 3rd gear trans problems, known by whom??!! dude, i have stocked and sold many, many mustangs...more than you probobly would believe, in the 19 years i've been at this, i cannot ever recall a chronic tranny problem in a stang...EVER! now, you want to talk about trans concerns...about the fact that the 2007 camry has a 3 second delay in the tranny when going from 3rd to 4th...when they figure out how to fix it, you'll see the recall...

oh, by the way, you dont want to go through the recall numbers on the mazda 626 or the mx6 (the probe's half sisters) for the years they were produced, compaired to the same model years for honda or toyota...in 11 years of production the 626 had 16 recalls....
