^He is exactly right on this point. If you have no holds to where you are located DJ, I would def move, but do the research first and find out everything you can about the particular state you are interested in. If i wasn't retiring in a couple yrs, i would be def going out west. I will first be looking at AZ, NV, and a few others. Im doing the research now. Even after i retire i may want to get into a lucrative business, but not where im at, thats for sure, lol! Im not going to invest one dime into an unstable state, where its always been up and down in a recession.

You have to realize DJ, that included guys like Bill Gates, the Waltons and all the other billionaires too. The average is just that, an average. Now, maybe where you are it's lower, so, move to a better place. I'll give you an example, my wife works part part time, I'm talking less than 15 hours a week at Gymboree and she makes $9.60 an hour. I also know a lot of tech guys who all make in the mid $20's and they are entry level guys. Everyone in construction here starts at about $15 and goes up based on what you can do. I'm telling you, it's where you are and not the whole country. I know a dude who is a framer, his wife stays at home with the three kids and I just appraised his $565k house. I asked him how he does it as a framer and he said 'man, I take home over $2k a week." My client, his loan officer, told me he is rolling in the bucks. And that's a dude who frames houses. I also did an appraisal for a painter I know, his house was $675k and he brings in over a quarter mill a year. So, like I said, if everyone around you is only making $10 a hour, then you need to get the hell out of dodge bro. Obviously, there is more money to be made, you just have to go and take your share. That's how the world works. Those on top, took what they wanted, and those who live pay check to pay check settled for what life gave them. I'm not knocking you, I'm trying to motivate you. If you are half as pasionate about your work as you are Bush, you could be in a million dollare home and debt free in 20 years, easy. It's all in how you structure yourself. If you don't make opportunites, or if they aren't even available, then go find them and conquer them brother. The only thing between you and $20 per hour is you. I know you have the skills, I know you have passion, all you have to do is tell yourself 'enough is enough, I refuse to settle' and go conquer the world bro. Yeah, I make it seem easy, because it is. 80% of the millionaires in this country are self made, 80%!

You have a PM on some more personal stuff.
Just for the record I was saying that stuff as a generalization. When I do have jobs I average $66-$100 an hour. I have no problem with my wages. Sure a few more jobs a month would make me one happy mofo, but I can't really complain.

I'm more *****ing about watching my friends, family, and neighbors struggling horribly because of the economy. It seems as if it's everyone I speak too. Unless you own your own business or have a masters degree you basically can count on living paycheck to paycheck.

I sometimes live paycheck to paycheck but that's because I'll dump huge chunks of money back into my business. If the prices of things weren't jumping up so damn high, I would definitely have more business.

I've seen a trend now that I no longer get middle class customers. It seems 95% of my customers are very rich. If the economy would let up, that would help give me back my bottom end again. But many of those customers that I still keep in contact with are struggling with gas, electric and all of those things I mentioned before. It's quite sad.

HAHAHAHAHA! I've already began that process. Silver is also a cheaper alternative that will also work.

Tman, I have to disagree with you on the meaning of the average wage in America. Yes, it may be $18 an hour, but factor out the rich and you're down in the bucket. The majority of people make crumbs for wages now.

Well what about the young people who make $14 to $15 an hour and are simply living beyond their means paycheck to paycheck. Pay for everything with a credit card and drive the most expensive rides and live in very expensive houses just because their credit allows them to do it for now.....

I for one think if people would chill out with their spending habits and not try to live above their means everything would be a whole lot simpler for them. Who cares if you drive a Denali when you are 26 years old....

Depends on area, but I don't know anyone else that is 28 or under making $14-$15 an hour. Most people make about $10. I bet if you were to take a poll at a local mall with people 28 or under 85% would be making $10 or under.

      Yup.

And Digg, this is probably the only time we'll agree on a political stance.

hell where i live 18 year old kids are making 70k+ a year...they either start off in the power plans for around 65k, or they work in the mines making 70-90k a year...or they go work in the oil fileds where they average over 65k a year...dont like the energy industry? ok, get a job in construction or running heavy equipment, and you would prob have to settle for $20 an hour to start.Hell, i was making WAAAY more than $10 an hour in the military when i got out in 96...uncle sam was giving me $1600 clear every 2 weeks back then!

Well its obviously different elsewhere. I live in western NC and you're lucky to find a job starting at 10 an hour without a degree.

For the most part that's the case here too. Some of the cargo trailer plants here top off for line workers around 13 or so per hour plus bonuses and that's about as good as it gets unless you've got some sort of degree.

LOL, of course they would make less than $10 per hour. Because the people who actully 'make' the money they are spending are busy at work.

I guess what I meant was just seeing these younger people who DO NOT MAKE THE KIND OF MONEY THEY ARE SPENDING. They have nothing going to savings or any type of 401K. But they damn sure like living in the nicest house with the nicest rides.

I'll see them in about 15 years when I am sitting on the beach drinking a umbrella drink and they are serving me...LOL
