TweetI would first have to ask....is it more money/income you need from this job??
or were you just offered this job out of hte blue ?
Tweethow do you put a value on family time? for you married folks out there (or whoever), if you were offered a job that was sure to take away a couple sat's a month and 4-5 hrs a week from your family, what would be the value of that time?

Tweeti would suggest it is about what your lifestyle is, what your goals are, and what you hope to accomplish..
also, how old you are..
I bill my time at $150 per hour, but i sub the work to other people for $60 per hour..
works for me, and i get to help raise my grandson, work out, and start yet another business.. there has to be an end goal..

Tweetnew job. bigger position with diff. company. they've tried hiring me in the past, but here's the thing. i come and go as i please. i answer to no-one. my decissions are never questioned, and i'm the law in my dept. (not trying to be ****y) the owner and me have a great relationship. he respects my opinion's and normally involves me in any decission making thats to be done regaurdless of the dept. (thats rare in this biz). the pay is a little light for the job that i do, but i make it by just fine. i do believe that once we get the rest of the dealership rockin, he'll tighten up my pay some....the pay diff would be pretty huge though....

TweetIt is all about providing for your family. Wether it be financially or emotionally. If you are not struggling to make ends meet and are providing for your family financially then I say that you need to take the job that allows you to contribute the most emotionally. Children grow up so fast and I don't think you can put a price on those years. Stick it out with the job that allows you to see your family more and I guarantee it will be more rewarding in the long run.
just my $.02.
Tweetwell, here ya go..
I'm 45 with 2 adult children 24 and 26...
worked all my life and didn't learn the skills i needed until i was older... Now i own a business i am selling this month, starting a new one Jan.. i've been asked how many hours per week do i work, i figured it out to be about 15-20..
I could earn more money, but my goals are being met.. so why do that..
with the new business, i will be working 60 hours per week, my wife will be helping, so i still spend time with her, but working at the same time.. i provide 2 days of daycare to my grandson.. he's 1.. in Janurary my 2nd grandchild will be here.. and this spring my wife and I will be getting prego ourselves.. (she's younger with no children of her own) so if and when we have a child the business should be developed enough to support itself, with me going back to 20 hours per week..
and there ya go..

TweetA couple of Sats a month...Is the 4-5hrs more a wk including these Saturadys or on top of it? You have to calculate the new pay in job minus the extra hrs works as opposed to what you are working now and that is really what your pay is. How many hrs do you work now? Use this formula to find out the real dif in pay - the extra hrs then ask yourself if it is worth it. You also have to factor in if there is a greater chance for additional advancement.
Tweetits quality, not quantity
Tweetthe 4-5hrs a week is in addition to the sats. and doing your formula is tuff. i work 35-40hrs now and this job would be 50-60 hrs a week, with the sats. i'd might have to work all sats untill i get it going. i dont punch a clock, but with the responciblities and the performance that will be expected of me, it'll be these hrs at a minimum at the biggining. chance of advancement at this other job would be owner! it's a usedcar general manager postion over three stores...i guess they could buy another one and make it 4 but a gm is a gm...it's only ownership from there.
the job i have now will advance as the company rises. it's ford, so it's hard right now...we got alot of work to do to get it back going. we're just now operating out of the red for the last 2 month's. i get paid now on the entire dealership (much like a gm, but without the title, witch is fine by me). the money being offered is double my current money. but, that's it. i dont think it would go up much from there, and i am at noway near the cealing here

TweetWell..sounds like alot more responsibility Daved. Money is not everything in life. The stress and extra time will take its toll sooner or later. You have to look also at what tax bracket you are in. For example if you are making say 90K now and will go to 180K you will be in a higher tax range for sure. If i were at your age with a family i would stay put.
Tweetwow...thats a pretty close analogy!! you work at my bank!! lol. your right...the stress would be triple, and i do got it good here....i think i'm going the loyal route! thanks y'all for your input

TweetKids grow up so fast...you do not want to miss out...family time is important...I agree with the people that say if your making enough money now..enjoy your family time....more money is always nice though, but with that usually comes more bills..ha!...talk to your wife and get her input......??

TweetI say stay put bro. I have two kids also 5 and 8. To me my job is raising my kids. Going to work is something we just have to do. Kids need every minute they can get with there parents in my opinion. I don't need to make alot of money to feel good about myself. I feel good when I get home and can here about everyones day. And I'm like you, I make a decent living and we want for nothing. Thats enough for me. It seems like I just had two babys and now there both in school already. Time flies bro. And when you can't be at something the kids are doing they remember that for sure. I don't want to be a dad that was never there because of work. So again I say stay put and grow with the company your at and more money will come with probably the same hours.
