I`ve always worked with dekstops and never actually owned a laptop, so with the 3rd shift I`m working right now.. I`m pretty bored at night so I need to buy a laptop right away..

I`m looking for a brand that has a wireless/sattelite technology built in so I can catch wireless internet. I don`t know much about wireless technology - always worked with cable/dsl providers. My ex-gf has a laptop and all she has to do is press this button that will activate her wireless options..she then gets 7 listings (unsecured networks) and she tries to connect to them.. some of them she cant and some she can but are mostly slow.. and she`s in a dorm so basicly shes stealing others internet.

I think the place I work should be packed with wireless connections so I could probably connect to one of them.

So basicly whats the good brand today that is affordable.. I`ve seen some crazy laptops that come close to 3 grand..

I KNOW OUR OFFICE JUST RESEARCHED THIS AS WELL...WE FOUND OUT THAT YOU GET A HELL OF A LOT MORE MACHINE OUT OF A DESKTOP THAN YOU EVER WILL FOR A LAPTOP.

A HOPPED UP DESKTOP MAY RUN YOU A GRAND AND THE SAME EQUIVALENT LAPTOP WILL COST 2-3 GRAND

ITS UP TO YOU AND THE AMOUNT OF MONEY YOU WANT TO SPEND

I would reccomend Dell or Sony among all the laptop manufacturers out there.

They both make good machines, I have had trouble with others, and when I have had trouble with Dell or Sony on occassion they are very helpful and get the problem fixed.

All newer models for the most part should have built in wireless tech.

Dell is probably a good place to start as you can customize your own machine with the parts you want.

I'd go with Dell! The company I work for bought some pretty awesome Dell laptops. They're the kind you can set up as a desktop but then remove the notebook from the docking station. Pretty bad ass! Also no problems whatsoever with them. It's fast and has all the wireless capabilities built in! Kind of pricey though!

Dell has the best $$ and unless you are messing with huge files you don't need any super laptop. I do real estate appraisals and my software has some huge files once the pics are added and I just have a cheap little eMachines and it works fine. The only time it has ever frozen up on me is when I'm playing Age of Empires II and I have like 8 different battles going on at once. Other than that, it's been awesome. And, it only freezes for a few seconds and then regroups. But, I got a bottom of the line one because I only use it for minimal stuff.

Wi-fi is the standard for for wireless networks. There is 2 kind of wifi : the 802.11B and the 802.11G the latest is the fastest (54mb/s I think).
