You know, it's funny. I'm fromt he south and we are taught to say 'yes sir' and 'yes mam' as a sign of respect. But then you read something like 'How to win friends...' but Dale Carnegie and he's the exact opposite. He says that saying 'yes sir' shows the person he see them as a superior. Like the military. You don't 'sir' your subordinates, only your heirarchy. I think you can be humble and have self respect at the same time. I certainly don't lack self respect and yet I humble myself when it's appropriate.
