I`m talking about cleaning out my skin so it looks more "smooth" or "pure"... I do have some acne on the back.. and on the front chest area acne that I can pop out and stuff.. I want to improve the look of the skin so its like paperthin.. I did tanning for a while but is there anything that I can make the skin more "smoother" and natural looking..

I use Lubriderm on my skin in the morning and night. Works wonders for me. You have to remember the main reason that acne forms is because your skin has a build up of oil. You may be asking how do I stop the oil from building up? Simple, first let me explain the reason your skin gets a build up of oil. Whenever your skin becomes overly dry your body will naturally produce oil to stop your skin from being too dry. The problem with this is your pores become clogged from this oil. So if you use something that is non comodegenic (doesn't clog pores) like Lubriderm atleast twice a day, you'll be keeping your skin moisturized enough so your body won't be producing oils.

As for tanning...The reason that hasn't done much is because that dries out your skin big time! Ever notice how you are all oily and gross after tanning? Thats because your skin is getting holy dried out and is producing mega amounts of oil. Drying out your skin helps kill acne, but at the same time makes your skin produce that oil. So in all essence it's a catch 22 with tanning. My best advice is tan to kill the existing acne, immediately take a shower to wash off the oil, then wait a few minutes for your skin to dry. Then put on lotion. Keep in mind if you do continue to tan, lotion twice a day won't be enough. Hope this helps.

I totally disagree! I live in Colorado and it is dry as hell here and I know for a fact that my skin doesn't produce more oil to compensate for it. When you have dry skin you have dry skin, when you have oily skin you have oily skin. The reason he is oily after the tanning bed is because of persperation (and probably tanning lotion), not oil production. The persperation is released to cool the body off. There is no evidence whatsoever that states the body will naturally produce oil to compensate for dry skin. I know from personal experience, I have dry skin.

Now, let me make another thing perfectly clear. It is physically impossible to add moisture to the skin. Moisture comes from the inside in the form of hydration. The reason people have to put lotion on numerous times is because they don't get enough hydration. Furthermore, most lotions are incapable of penetrating the skin due to the fact they are made with mineral oils and/or petroleum jelly. These two items have a molecular structure that is to large for human skin to absorb. These are facts.

If you don't believe me then take a bottle of baby oil and pour it into a bowl. Then put a regular saltine cracker in there. Then come back and see for your self. The cracker will still be at it's original consistancy. I've performed this experiment in a chemistry class and we put a cracker in baby oil for 1 full month and when we pulled it out it was still as firm as teh day we put it in there. Why? Because mineral oils cover the skin, they do not enter it. Therefore, there is no skin moisturizing taking place. There are only a few lotions on the market that do not have mineral oils and/or petroleum jelly. And studies have yet to prove they actually moisturize the skin. Yes, the do lubricate it. But they don't moisturize it.

Diggi - If you want something to clean your skin then you need to take hotter showers (to open the pores) and use a pore cleasing soap. There are many reasons for acne, and some have nothing to due with clogged pores. People who suffer from Zinc diffeincies have acne, for example. And finally, the worst thing you can do to acne is pop the heads. This, no matter how you do it, tramatizes the skin and spreads the infection into other areas. The best thing to do is leave it alone.

First off that is completely incorrect! My Fiancee is in the medical field and she read your post and said you couldn't be farther from the truth.

There has been extensive studies on this and your skin does naturally produce oil. Some people do have more oil produced naturally then others. That should be obvious because not everyone is the same. This is why some people get more acne than others. I, like you have super dry skin, so much so that it will be dry to the point it hurts. If I don't moisturize it, it will produce a ton of oil. I have a very mild version of a skin condition called eczema and everything the doctor gave me didn't work. I had alot of acne for years. Then I did what I told Diggi to do and now as a worse case scenario I might get one pimple every few months. As soon as I stop using it the acne comes back. Being that I don't use any other face stuff at all how about you explain this to me?

Now, let me make another thing perfectly clear. It is physically impossible to add moisture to the skin. Moisture comes from the inside in the form of hydration. Honestly bro you usually are very smart when it comes to the things you say, but this was just off in left field. You have these things called pores. Pores are porous. This means that your skin is able to absorb things. Perfect example is if you get pesticides on you they tell you to wash immediately because it will absorb into your skin, and could (depending on strength of pesticide) kill you. So like I said your skin needs to be moisturized when it is dry. If it doesn't work, then why is my skin no longer dry after I moisturize it? Maybe because it was moisturized! As another example if your body doesn't absorb things how come things like nicotine patches, and birth control patches are used? They don't burn through your skin, they're absorbed.

I also wanted to touch base on your comment on the tanning. First off I used to sell tanning beds, bulbs, and lotions and am fully aware of the concept of tanning. I understand which bulbs do what, and what each lotions purpose is. If you go into any GOOD tanning store they will advise you to use a moisturizing lotion after you tan because IT WILL DRY OUT YOUR SKIN! Try going tanning without lotion and your skin will still produce oil, as well as sweat. After you wipe off the sweat you still have oil in your pores. It didn't just appear because your a oily person. It appeared because thats what the human body is naturally supposed to do.

If you don't believe me then take a bottle of baby oil and pour it into a bowl. Then put a regular saltine cracker in there. Then come back and see for your self. First off I never told him to use freaking petroleum jelly. Theres not really much to say but that again your skin is porous so it does absorb things. Since when does are bodies have the ability to make things levitate over our pores?

Diggi - If you want something to clean your skin then you need to take hotter showers (to open the pores) and use a pore cleasing soap. Here you are 100% correct. Hot showers do open your pores. That's why they tell you to use hot water to shave, and cold shower to wash your face after to close the pores.

I've helped alot of people, friends, family, my fiancee, and even myself with the advice I've given Diggi. If what I said was so wrong then how did it work so well for everyone? Maybe I just have voodoo abilities and I was able to conjour up some concotion that made them free from visible defects. Or maybe, just maybe I happen to be right on this one!

I have to agree with 007. He is right, the skin doesn't compensate for oil when tanning. It only gets dryed out because of all the sweating. I happen to have dry skin all over except for the nose area and cheeks on my face. Mositurisers will only help soften the skin and is just temporary. Best thing is to drink plenty of water, fruits and veggies, and i have to say that other than greens, i supplement by buying a powdered green that has a combination of plant/algae photosterols. It prob the best mix i take for skin complexion.

DJ is correct. I didn't believe it either until my wife, and later the clinique counter lady, explained it to me. It sounds gay as hell but you have to moisturize after you wash. Even the clinique 3 step system for men is: wash, scruffing lotion, then moisturize. Try it bro, the breakouts will come to a halt.

Yes, I debate anyone who gives bad advice, that's my role here.
Your girl is wrong bro! My aunt-in-law is a Dematologist. What field of medicine is your girl in? Is she an actual skin doctor, or is she a registered nurse? I can tell from your post she is not a Dermatologist because people who have dry skin have it because of a lack of oil production. You wrote that people with dry skin produce oil to compensate for it and that is incorrect. Why the hell do you think they have dry skin? Because they don't produce enough oil. I'm guessing you have no formal training in atanomy. Like I said, I took a class where we learned all about the effects of mineral oil and petroleum jelly (which are ingredients in many lotions) on the skin. Then I asked my aunt, the Dermatologist, and she confirmed it. The skin can not absorb mineral oil or petroleum jelly. These ingredients are found in many lotions on the market.

Ok, what you are talking about is cleaning the pores. Which is what I said, if you clean the pores you have a better chance of reducing it. However, some acne is the result of mineral defficits. This can not be resolved by adding lotion. DJ is saying that the human body produces oil to compensate for dry skin. If the body could do that on it's own nobody would have dry skin. It's a contradiction, therefore, its a false statement.

WTF? That makes no sense what so ever. First, hot water will dull your razor faster. You already admit that hot showers open the pores and then you say to take cold showers to close your pores. How the heck are you supposed to clean closed pores? I'm sorry, but that's the most ass backwards thing I've ever heard. Take a cold shower after you shave. how does shaving clean the pores? How does hot water on your razor clean the pores? How does taking a cold shower after you shave clean the pores? Good God, did you even read that before you put out there. And you say you are helping people.

I don't know who "they" are in your story but you need to check their credentials. LOL

What you want to use is Neutrogena Body Wash. It has salycylic acid in it, which cleans out your pores. I use it daily, along with a non-comedogenic lotion, and I have flawless skin on my torso... not a pimple in sight!
