The year prior to 2001 the Center of Dieses control reports the leading preventable causes of death in 2000 were tobacco (435000 deaths; 18.1% of total US deaths), poor diet and physical inactivity (400000 deaths; 16.6%), and alcohol consumption (85000 deaths; 3.5%). Other actual causes of death were microbial agents (75000), toxic agents (55000), motor vehicle crashes (43000), sexual behaviors (20000), and illicit use of drugs (17000). Once again I want to ask, did you know somebody that has died from one of these preventable causes? I would dare say the answer is yes. Since September 11, 2001 well over 2,700,000 Americans have died from tobacco, obesity, and alcohol use. How is this stupid? Americans have allowed the government to spend over $150,000,000,000 dollars on just the “war on terrorism” in Iraq. Will the war in Iraq help prevent or stop any of the top preventable deaths in the United States? No, and that is why were/are scared stupid. I end this paragraph with, 38% * of the deaths in 2001 were EASLY preventable. 9-11 only accounted for 0.001% of the deaths that year.

The war on drugs and now the war on terrorism has been a total failure. Countless BILLIONS of dollars have been wasted. How about a war on smoking? How about teaching parents that a 5 year old should not tip the scales at 150lbs? etc etc We should focus on whats preventable. We can also prevent terrorism in the US by securing our borders.

notice I did not mention Afgan. Afgan was justified attack/war. Iraq was not.

The Iraq on the Record database contains 237 misleading statements about the threat posed by Iraq that were made by President Bush, Vice President Cheney, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, Secretary of State ColinPowell, and National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice. These statements were made in 125 separate appearances, consisting of 40 speeches, 26 press conferences and briefings, 53 interviews, 4 written statements, and 2 congressional testimonies. Most of the statements in the database were misleading in that they expressed certainty where none existed or failed to acknowledge the doubts of intelligence officials. Ten of the statements were simply false.

      https://www.votenader.org/issues/index.php?cid=48

If you think back to the weeks prior to the war in Iraq you'll recall that these lies were dropped about 1-2 per day and all the major media ate it up. The media played the same 5-10seconds news/lie clip over and over while "experts" talked about this and that. It was a way to scare americans into thinking that we must attack. Attack them all or they get us first. :2gunsfiri :2gunsfiri

What about the 40 something vehicles that were ordered for the army in Iraq that were never accounted for according to a recent audit conducted by the U.S. These vehicles costed you and I 240,000 bucks. I don't know about you but I know where every fuckin dime of my cash goes. Just imagine how many programs our govt. could finance to help OUR people if they ONLY tracked thier spending better.

Bush, and his whole cabinet, are a bunch of lying crooked bastards! GW, had 2 motives for Iraq! First, he failed to produce what he promised the American people....Bin Laden! So, who is the next best thing? Sudam Husain!
The other reason, Remember when sudam tried to have his dad Killed? Pay back! His personal vendeta has cost me countless tax dollars, plus 4 very close friends!
We never found those fictional 'weapons of mass destruction", so i say time to leave!

four more years!!!!! love it or leave it...

when dealing with a threat such as terrorism, money is no object--it's about survival. if the terrorists start carbombing you guys' pizza hut, you'll be singing a different story, one that complains and moans about how limp-wristed Bush has been and how we shouldbve gone after the terrorists. you take the fight to these people, you dont wait until the mcdonald's on main street blows up killing 30 kindergardeners. just more typcial liberal bantering and sour grapes over being out of touch with the mainstream America. and nader? give me a break. I say, let him keep running, its great for us because alot of the really nutty liberals vote for him and further dilute the sorta nutty democrat's vote numbers. run again in '08 nader, I say! LOLOLOLOL

as for tobacco and inactivity being the leading cause of death. i have no pity, frankly. no one held a gun to those people's heads forcing them to puff away or stuff that 5th big mac into their faces. same goes for sexual behaviors, alcohol, and illicit drug use. as for microbial and viral deaths, people DO get sick...again, another example of the liberal mindset of more government trying to do for people what they wont do for themselves. sheesh!

MY point is the money could be spent on better things. We could SAVE americans lives with that $150,000,000,000.

We could secure the US border and staff them with enough people to prevent the terrosist from entering the US.

Thank you. So we as Americans won't help our OWN people because its "liberal mindset". But WE will spend BILLIONS on Iraq when those people " wont do for themselves. sheesh!"

I know my town could use a new water plant. I bet your town could use a few more trained cops. I know my grandmother could use a fire department in her town. etc etc etc.

My dad went to work for KBR "Dicks Cheneys old company" he said that they had a lot the size of big walmart parking lot with new car and trucks. Just sitting there with dust on them.

As a fuel truck driver, driving new M-Benz diesel rigs that cost over 120,000 each plus the trailer and fuel. If they get a flat tire or engine problems. They ditch the truck and/or trailer. The army will come by and blast the hell out of it. Talk about waste.

I'M GONNA TRY AND NOT GET EMOTIONAL ABOUT THIS BUT JUST SAY THAT IF ATTACKING OR TAKING THE OFFENSIVE AGAINST ANY COUNTRY BEING RUN BY A LUNATIC HELL BENT ON KILLING AMERICANS IS UNJUSTIFIABLE THAN I'LL TAKE UNJUST ANY DAY!

YOU KNOW ****** NEVER ATTACKED THE US EITHER AND WE INVADED GERMANY IN WWII. I GUESS THAT WAS UNJUSTIFIABLE TOO. ALL I CAN SAY IS I'M GLAD I LIVE IN SUCH AN UNJUST COUNTRY!

Remember, LiC. We didnt enter WWII, until we were attacked by japan. Plus that is totally different.

I have nothing bad to say about the US...If I did, I would not have volunteered 5 years of my life serving in the armed forces. I do, however have bad things to say about some of the people running the country and their decisions. Apperantly, so does half of his staff(cabinent), as they all resigned after the election....That says something doesnt it...

True but why not just retalliate against the Japanese? And you are right. Our govt makes many mistakes, but I feel ias long as they are trying to do the best for Americas interests than we shouldn't bash too bad

      4 more years!

      America has spoken!

Besides, americans are selfish and no amount of money is going to stop ignorant stupid people from getting fat, smoking and drinking. Period. That's why it's called "preventable" deaths. The only person who can prevent it, is the person doing it. I'd be pissed off as hell if my tax $$ were wasted on some dumb ass who can't control his twinkie obsession. I don't care about people who die from smoking, alcoholism or self inflicted obesity. They bring it on themselves! Period. Mind over matter. If they are too weak mentally to quit, why the hell waste money on it. What I do care about is feeling safe living in America.

      And that's priceless!

It IS a shame the gov can't allocate more money to research so we can find cures for Cancer, MS, Parkinsons, Alzheimers, and many others. The cures are very attainable and in a short time they could be wiped out if the same amount of $ that was already spent on the War were spent on research. It is only a matter of $ and millions of lives could be saved. Have you ever went to the Childrens Hospital cancer wing. It will make you think big time. I guess it is never a priority in the budget. Frankly, i don't really think there is one, lol!

Now that I agree with. Unpreventable illnesses should be researched better and funded better. But to waste money on a bunch of people doing stuff they already know is bad for them is asinine.
