TweetAll right, I have been pissed off about this long enough and I figured some of you guys would have some useful input on this. Certain schools dont get along with the local community. This is the case for the school I attend, University of Delaware. Since I am a student I see it from our perspective. The "townies" come into parties, steal things and then pick fights with the college kids. The problem is that the cops do not penalize the townies, only the college kids because that is where the money is at. The problem with this is that the town has gotten out of control. A friend of mine got held up by gun point and robbed, another one was walkin home and was jumped by 4 locals who stole everything on him and left him in a pool of blood. The most recent incident was when two townies were fighting eachother, one pulls out a gun, shoots, misses the guy and hits a teenage girl walking home from her prom, killing her. I considered writing to the local paper but I feel they wont listen to a college kid and they dont need to start trouble with the local police. Its easy for them to break up a party and start throwing minors in the back of police cars in hand cuffs and start handing out noise violation fines and underage drinking tickets, but serious crime is too serious for these guys. You guys got any helpful hints to get the cops off the less dangerous college kids just because they have money, and start worrying about the real crime going on here. I understand that they have to put food on the table but maybe focusing a bit more time on the problem at hand might make sense.
Sorry for the long thread but I am very emotional about this topic and needed to share it,
