why do you keep it with the decocking lever down? that's one of the best things i learned in many of the shooting schools i have attended. on the Beretta it's a decocking lever not a safety. they even called that in armor school that i attended as well. military leadership would always lose their minds seeing the lever up and try to correct you on keeping the safety on. it's used to decock the hammer and a secondary safety haha

You are absolutely correct! However with a round in the chamber, and the decocking lever down, it is unable to fire with a pull of the trigger. But in all honesty to answer your question, it’s just habit dude!

yes you are correct as well it is a secondary safety. the military mindset was very hard to break with the lever down on the weapon. but what really made it sink in for me is like jipped said earlier. one less step in the firing process even though i hate a double action pull haha. i carry my glocks all in condition one with no safety so not having an active safety really doesnt bother me that much anymore. but on the other hand if you have kids or others in your vehicle an additional engaged safety can be a good thing. love the 92, it holds up very very well and reasonably reliable for sure. a buddy of mine had a 40 cal model given to him when a friend died. cool to see it handle in a larger caliber

You have 1 step more than me. I pull aim fire and do not have to worry about it.

That said I sometimes carry a CZ75 C which is DA/SA and has a safety. (the best shooting gun I have ever shot)
      40cal 4” barrel emp...I’ve put about 400 rds with not 1 problem!
Xdm 40 for my high capacity!
Cz75 is a great firearm......Dan Wesson has come a long way!
Dan Wesson just came out with A blend of 1911 and CZ 75, the DWX has a lot of standard features such as a 19+1 9mm capacity, a 1913 Picatinny rail, a square hammer, and a flat trigger.

Wesson makes incredible custom firearms. My CZs are all OE. I also have a CZ75 poly close from EAA called the sar BP6. I think it is one of the greatest gun bargains out there. Handles and fires like a real CZ, I actually like it as much. If you did not know better, the finish on the slide is the only way you can tell it is not a CZ. Never a prob.

I carry my CZs half cocked. Makes the DA trigger pull shorter and easier but the pin block is still in place until the hammer goes all the way back. No safety

I trained at patriot protection many times. They all love 1911s but every instructor recommended DAO striker fired pistols. The rule of 1 is none and 2 is one works the other way as well they said for taking a safety off. Under maximum danger in a life or death situation 1 is 2 and 2 is 4.

The first time I ever did live fire with simunitions it was gun vs knife drills. Geared up guy has a knife and is 6 feet away from you. He might make small talk for 3-4 minutes then attack when you let your guard down. several guys forgot to clear their shirts from the pistol. grabbed it funky and missed and they paid the price. that dull plastic knife HURTS.

I learned from them but I still shot the guy 4 times in front, in the top of the head and shoulders and in the back several times. I never got touched with the knife. I was quick to make distance to give me time to pull my gun. Some guys froze and got worked.

Once we moved into gun vs gun I did not do as well. I was 50% death to kill. (Against other guys who were trained, and sims HURT!!!!!!!!!)

I never had the opportunity to do the ar15 tactics and fighting classes. But pistols were more important I think. My brother always went with me. He is REALLY good. He and I took on two guys who were allegedly both police marksmen. I died every match but my bro was able to take both guys out every time. I think he uses witchcraft to get center mass every shot.

I recommend force on force training for anyone who carries. It will scare you. you are not as good as you think you are. (except my brother but then he trains almost every week with a shooting coach)

A firing range does nothing for you in a life or death situation. I think it is good for getting used to the bang and the kick. But nothing tactical. You have to know that there is a repercussion for failing. In a real gunfight that is death, in training that is searing pain from a 7 gr projectile going 450-490 fps.I always work a heavy carhart shirt and pants and thin leather gloves. Never shot in the hand but i bet that would hurt like the devil.

The pistols we trained with were converted glock 17s. No real round will fit them. They cycle and fire just like the real thing but have an orange slide.

My son did their intro classes but lost interest when he saw guys coming out of the warehouse with bloody welts from the sims. There were some real savages that wore light tshirts, jeans and face protection.

The EAA is sweet. I like my Taurus PT92 with decocker. It is stainless so not easy to hide. I don't intend to hide it anyway.

i was fortunate to both attend and run these types of training courses jipped. it weeds out the rambos and tough guys really fast haha. one of the teaching indicators we were taught in evaluating our students was the number of shots our instructors and aggressors had on our hands. it shows that the students are instinctively shooting center mass. i still have scars on my hands from those impacts. some of the le course i attended their number one teaching point was hands hands hands. identify and control the subjects hands. you talking about the handgun on handgun shoots haha. we had one that i attended where at the end they made us go against each other at 10 yards with no body armor or shirts on, they had a hood on you and you facing away. they pull the hood and you turn draw and fire. he who is calmest and smoothest wins the fight. i loved doing that stuff so much haha, other than combat those years of school and instruction where the highlight of my career. the military spent a huge amount of money on my cadres training

When I got my CCW in KY it was a 3 day course then (now 1 day) Dan Cash a State Police and retired Marine was teacher. When at range I followed his instruction exectly, when he says load 2 rounds you load 2 rounds no more no less. As a Seabee Marines and Seals taught us survival and range edicette . He escouted and failed the ones not doing exactly what he said.
He showed video of whong and right ways to use a fire arm with test after. If you failed you were out.
      Tough but good class.
