I've been seeing this girl's story everywhere over the past few weeks. She is/was considered a fitness "influencer" on Instagram. I don't even know what that means, but I guess it's a thing now days. Apparently she scammed thousands of women out of money promising them personalized fitness programs, but provided nothing but these cookie cutter programs to some women and nothing at all to others. There are now thousands of women demanding their money back. The story goes even deeper than that, but this brings me to my ultimate question.... How in the world did we get here in the fitness world? What the hell is an "influencer" and how the hell did that become a thing?

There are so many people out there that are so called "experts" in the bodybuilding and fitness world, but know absolutely nothing about how to train properly, eat properly, etc... They just have decent genetics, post up some pics on social media and become the all knowing expert on how to get people in shape. It's laughable lol. Most of them have no knowledge, never competed in anything and have zero credentials. Yet, people toss them all this money for "online coaching". Then complain when they find out this dumb ass doesn't really know anything and they feel ripped off. It amazes me how social media creates this platform for all these idiots to call themselves coaches, or "influencers". The further we go into the modern bodybuilding and fitness industry, the more I miss the old days. The days when being an expert/coach meant you had a proven record and some credentials. Not just a bunch of edited pictures that generate a lot of likes. I'll quit ranting now lol, but seriously how did we get to this point in the industry?

Personal Trainer Certifications are a dime a dozen and that has nothing to do with them knowing anything about training themselves or clients. It's sad they make money off people who want the quick fix not the hard fought fix.

Social media has provided a platform for so many people to spew their crap. I am sure the chic works hard and eats right but that does not make one a good teacher. Hell in college, many of my profs were stupid people who could recite from the textbook without looking but could not apply that to anything real world.

Intellect is the ability to solve problems, many folk mistake what my profs had as intellect. It's not.

This gal seems like a prof. She hears something, recites it but what is good for you may not be good for a 250 woman with arthritic knees.

one, i would say do your research on the person you are looking to give money to? that should be number one top priority. then look at their clients results and placements. three, pricing for the level that said coach is at. and finally have they ever won anything themselves? do they still maintain good shape and talk to people they work with.
i coach people both online and in person. i have been doing this stuff for well over 20 years and i personally never allowed anyone to handle what i do until last year. i have tried damn near every approach on myself as well as on other people. am i an expert? fuck no not even close, i pride myself on learning new things everyday and the challenge of what worked before doesnt work now is real.

now the trade off on coaching and clients is: the vast majority of people you work with wont follow your directions to a t like you put out for them. then they will raise all kinds of hell because they didnt get results. that's one side of the coin, the other are the cock suckers that will take what you do for them and then turn into coaches and start using your stuff on other people. it's a shady and nasty business across the board and i am sure some of these women may or may not have gotten screwed over. then again a little common sense and a bit of talking and research can save you tons of money. hell what we do for the most part really isnt that complicated and you can do it on your own. you just have to have some drive and a tad bit of self discipline.

last point on the instagram and fb bull shit. these fucking clowns photo shop, edit and filter the piss out of their pics. so if you are foolish enough to pick one of them that isnt an actual professional or someone you can actually see in person. send my your money then i wont piss it away and i will blow all kinds of smoke up your ass. i know people here locally that filter and mess with the pics they put up online so bad that the background gets distorted and looks funky. yet they are massive and peeled in the pic. not so much in person haha.

the sad thing is alot of people look for and will take the easy way out. the gym i go to has 8 or so personal trainers at 5 when i go. if you look at them they are either skinny and bony or very chunky. my question is how can you sell something looking like this? its like being a mechanic and your truck is always broke that tells me your not a very good mechanic if you were your shit would be running. if your going to be a personal trainer you need to look the part..

It's just aggravating to see because there are so many great, knowledgeable coaches / trainers out there in person and online. But, these few social media idiots who have somehow acquired this massive fanbase, when they turn around and scam everyone it makes the whole industry look bad. This particular chick was able to take hundreds of thousands of dollars from people before being called out. The saddest part is people actually fall for it. People don't do research anymore. They just see a picture, click like and take out their wallet lol. It boggles my mind.

Man I've heard about that too. I have a couple friends that do online coaching, as well as in person and they've said the same thing. They'll get a client and the next thing they know, that person is now training other people using their programs. It's crazy. People who do that plus these social media idiots are so damn shady. Makes it that much harder for the real legit knowledgeable coaches and trainers.

So agree with guns, it cracks me up all the time they show some you “skinny” girl in leggings...use great perfect lighting and she’s doing basic stretches or exercises that can be viewed as sexual almost to entice women who look nothing like this “girl”...that girl hasn’t had kids so her ribs and hips are narrow and she’s probably 100lbs! Yet they use it to entice women...it’s a program that will only lead to failure because the object is not obtainable!

for one people are fools. unless you want to take the guess work out of the equation and let someone else pull the trigger on changes then you are wasting your money. their is no magic tricks or techniques in fitness. take in less cals than you need and train hard and you will see results for the most part. it is nice to have someone calling the shots and learning new little tricks and tweaks but it really isnt hard at all. the hard part is being able to do it yourself and making the call when to pull and when to stay or add. that's where most fall short. if you are trying to look like someone else you are also a fool haha. brutal honesty with no filters on yourself is a rare commodity these days for sure.
