Dude I don't know what your communication is like w/your wife, but it really seems like the two of you need to have a very serious open minded two way discussion on what it takes to make things work. And that doesn't mean you bringing home the bacon and building her dream home. Imagine if something fatal happend to one of you tomorrow. What would all that time and energy that goes into the house do for you then? Nadda! You can't kill yourself doing things like that day in and day out w/o taking quality time away alone and together to remind each other why you love one another and what is truly important. That's my opinion...since you asked what we thought.
wow thanks Dr. Phil jk
just have her start helping .....maybe when she sees thats that shit is hard work she might not be such a slave driver.

Easiest way to make her stop is to tell her to go out and get a price from contractors if she needs the work done so bad, otherwise she has to wait and give you some down time. My wife shit three ways to hell when she found out to run 300 square feet of durango limestone up 9 feet in a 8x5 bathroom would cost her about $8000.00 + the tile. The bathroom I finished was about $9000.00 in materials and I priced it out at Home Depot Expo for labor (I bought the material there) at about $21000.00
She hasn't bothered me since.
BTW-if you have any questions, I'd be happy to help. Been doing this for about 20 years and "This Old House" got nothing on me.
So be sure that you are makin the best of what that you have
