Saw a 4-7 foot gator grabbed a 2 year old at Disney world's Grand Floridian Resort. The father said he tried to wrestle the child from the gator's mouth but he got away. That gator would be dead on the beach or I'd be dead underwater in that lake if it was my kid. I wouldn't let the gator take him while there was life in me still. Sad day for that child and for WDW

what in the holy hell! I cannot imagine seeing a monster come up out of the water (i assume) grab my child and slide back in the water. this is CRAZY! because that is what gators are, prehistoric monsters. can you imagine a person seeing one for the first time and never hearing about them? they would think the devil had sex with a dinosaur.

I feel for the folk but I just cannot understand how one could not catch the creature.

we have gators, no where near as many as florida has but enough. you do not let your small kids or pets near the edge of the water. those animals do what they their instincts tell them to do and they will snatch anything resembling food off the bank with lightning speed. they killed a 14 footer a few years back because it ate someone's pet. sad across the board on these kinds of stories on both ends

I would bet they would sue but no amount of money will replace such a loss

No doubt. What a horrible tragedy. If that happened on Disney propery, they cvould be at fault for not gator proofing the place. Of course, bears in Yelloowstone will occasionaly eat a person too, so it is probably something that cant be prevented. Im glad I dont live in florida

They know about the gators. When I was paragliding at the Contemporary the boat guides were showing us way on the other side of Bay Lake where this huge 10 ft female has just laid eggs but said she never bothered anybody over there and people steered clear and the times we went to Downtown Disney via boat from French Quarter resort the ferry captain told us the canals were man made but because they stick them with fish for the resort guests you do get gators in there too time to time. You know they'll sue but common sense has to play a part too, you're in gator central in Florida and you still need to be aware when you're in a fresh water lake. Like I said how far away was this guy from his 2 year old when he got snatched and how much (if any) alcohol had he consumed on that day of vacation to not be able to intercept or rescue the kid from said gator?

Apparently I just heard on the radio that there were signs posted to not swim and the father and son were wading in the water. Not sure it's it's true or not but if so then it wasn't like he was snatched in a safe area. Just my .02

What a tragedy. People have no idea what lurks in ponds in LA, FL, SC and GA. Me and my dad were fishing at Oyster Bay, his friends golf course in North Myrtle beach years ago. We saw a gator out in the pond, big not sure how big. There were some kids from the condos near the golf course playing next to pond the across from us. My dad went to the kids to talk to them and their dad came down to the 10 acre+ pond. He told him he should not let his kids play too close to the pond because of the alligator. The guy looked at us like we like we were dumbasses. So we walked him and his kids to the other side to see the alligator floating. He and his kids were scared shitless!!!!!

So when we were leaving my dad stopped by the guy who takes care of the grass and they talked for a bit. My dad mentioned to the guy about the kids playing next to the pond The greenskeeper told my dad they he saw the same gator ambush and drag in a 12 point buck into the pond!!!! He was afraid it could happen to a golfer or a kid so he called animal control. They caught the gator, it was 10 foot long!!!! Be careful when next to ponds on the deep south. This is a awful situation that is preventable.

i couldn't imagine being those parents who just lost there child.. I've lived down here almost my whole life.. in my opinion any pond size or larger fresh body of water has gators in them I wouldn't let my child or dog around.. maybe because the people where from out of state didn't know about the dangers in the lakes and ponds down here..

small dogs get eaten more then you think down here because of all of the golf course and most who live in them have small dogs and don't pay attention to there dogs and don't understand the wife life down here.. sucks for the family they will never be the same..

is it Disney's fault I don't think so its florida there are alligators down here in the water. who ever you point the finger at the child will never come back.. I see Disney getting sued and settling.........
