Also a lot of what the media reports if you pay attention is almost always a loose pitbull which is part of my point of irresponsible dog owners. 9/10 a dog attack regardless of breed is in part due to a bad owner weather it's lack of training, improper training, or ghetto training (making them purposely aggressive but no control) coupled with insufficient fencing or leashing. I just wish the dogs were not blamed and instead the owners were made responsible. I'm not saying don't put down the dogs that due attack because most times those dogs can't be rehabilitated.

As a side note you have groups of people that will say the breed was bread for fighting and is the reason they are the way they are. This is just not true, bulldogs were also bread for fighting centuries ago granted the breed has been fucked by selective breeding and they live a horrible life now because of it and life expectancy is 6-7 years for most and they can't even procreate on their own now. You also have the Cane Corso (which I have now) this dog was bread for fighting lions and tigers in Ancient Rome, the gladiators would enter the coliseum with them, this is the reason their breed standard (although being changed now) is to have their ears cropped and tails docked.

As far as the gun control I was just comparing because it's similar in the sense of improper training in use of a gun is dangerous, improper storage is dangerous, and in the wrong hands they are even more dangerous.

like i said man, i have no problem with the animals at all, i just wouldnt own one due to the possible risk even as slight as it may be. i also agree that the owners should be held accountable for their animals actions entirely because it isnt always the animals faults. the military has banned pits and almost all the breeds you listed on military bases, so they all come with an extra bit of risk. i have a bull terrier myself and if he wanted to he could hurt you pretty bad as well but he isnt that big of a guy, so if he got out of hand i am pretty sure i could handle him. your dogs, i wouldnt be so confident with lol

At least pits dont have small man complex like little breeds haha. I cant even count how many times those yappy dogs have bite me on the ankle and i didnt really know till i looked down and my foot was bleeding lol.

I like the looks of the cane corso dog. I dont know much about them, but I need to find a dog about that size as a guard dog for the house. I have considered rottweilers , german sheps, malinois...I prefer a breed that doesnt shed much. I was always a german shepherd owner. German shepherds are not the healthiest of breeds plus the hair is unreal. You have to brush at least once a week or even daily in the summer with shepherds. What about dobermans? I have a 5 acre mini farm and want to surround it with buried electric fence, so an athletic breed that can run and patrol the place. I was going to go rottweiler till I watched videos and they seem to get fat very easy...
Pitbulls would be great, but not sure they would work here due to the stigma and there is a dog fighting culture around here. People see you with a pitbull and they freak out.
Any recommendations are appreciated.

get a dobe or an american bull dog man. both are short hair dont require grooming at all and great trainable guard dogs. i have had both and even though the american bully is somewhat stubborn they are smart as hell. both those breeds are awesome and i had no issues with mine other than getting bit once while bathing one of my male dobes.

American Johnson bulldog or Cane Corso are great. Corso shed but not much. Plus they are very loyal and natural guards dogs and very healthy. They do get somewhat big the father of mine was 150. Do some research though. They have a great history, they've only been in the US since the late 70's if I remember right.

My sis had a Cane Corso. It looked like a large black lab. The dog was great but it didn't live very long. She currently has an English Mastiff and I think he is on his way out soon too. Many of the big dogs do not seem to have longevity.

Not suppose to look like a lab at all, much bigger head. Was hers sick? Lifespan for a Corso is 11-12 and are typically very healthy although some can have hip issues so you have to find a breeder that knows what they're doing and breeds only healthy dogs together (mine came with a 2 year guarantee against hip issues) also you can't really take them running or let them run full out or long periods until they're about 1 year old to avoid hip issues too. English mastiffs have 12 year lifespan too but develope joint issues because they get so big, males get to 225lbs and some push higher. Great Danes on the other hand are very good looking dogs and are also good dogs but they do live a short life 6-8 years tops.

that's why i suggested the dobe or american bulldog. they are pretty healthy and live for over 10 years. mine was 12 when she passed away and was one of the smartest dogs i ever saw. she would let you know when someone was around for sure

Aside from color I don't see it. Yeah that's pretty big. That's one of the reasons I didn't get an English Mastiff to big for their own good, but man are they awesome and lovable.

They look good. Big and athletic. More athletic than the rottweillers I have seen. How big do those Cane Corsos get? Maybe too big for what I need but maybe not.

The american bulldog looks great! I hadnt even thought about that breed. Will look into that too

They get kinda big in the sense of weight but not to big height wise. They're about 1.5 times the size of a big pit bull
