TweetI think that whatever curfew is, is what is good for an older teen. I agree with you that we have to let them have bits by bits until they give us a reason. It is so hard though.

Our daughter is at the age to where she wants to walk to the store with friends. fuzo and I are still not comfortable with that but I kno we have to break the ties a bit. WE have raised her to be very aware of her surroundings. We are both scared as hell though. Lets face it, when we were kids we were gone all day outside till dinner, it is just an even crazier world now. I will be getting her one of my 'Brutus" key chains and I hope the self defense from TKD is still stored in her mind in case she ever needs to use it

When we don't agree, which is at least 50% of the time lol, we talk and usually end up on the same page.

Tweeti would say 11-12 is reasonable for 17 but they have to earn and keep it. if i was a minute late i lost my ride for a month and wasnt allowed to go out at all and my parents were very very laxed for the most part. funny thing is my state has some crazy law where under 18 you have to be off the road unless accompanied by an adult. i believe unless you are working it is 11 or 12 and if you are caught they will suspend your drivers permit.
as for the little ones, we dont allow them to travel out of our sight range alone. not so much the stories about people being prosecuted for this but in today's society you cant trust anyone anywhere. so i lean on the better safe than sorry mindset with mine

two quick stories on why i am way more harsh about my kids than others are. 1-(idk these people) but a 30 something man was locked up for body slamming a 13 year old boy on a church side walk. he caught the 13 year old molesting his 6 or 7 year old daughter and chased him to the church. 2- one of the girls that my kid was friends with had another little girl sleep over (12) and she got caught having sex with the 17 year old brother. guess he would be in the first story if that had been my child. and yes i know that it is a new day and age but we also had sex early compared to our parents but 99% of the time it was with people of our own age.

TweetI agree with the above statements, that trust is everything no matter what kind of relationship it is. He has shown a high level of responsibility from what you have said. I would extend the time back a bit, but still have a limit. If He follows that limit I think everybody wins. Rewarding good behavior is a sure way to help foster it in the future. Sounds like you are doing a great job with him so far.

Tweeti am like you O2. for every 5 minutes late he comes home 30 minutes earlier next time. more than 30 minutes he does not go out at all.

he has good friends and is responsible for the most part. his GF has the strictest parents. she has to be home at 9:30 and they have to be with other people. i told my boy if her daddy comes over yelling about what he did to his daughter some day i was going to shove his skinny ass out the door with that angry man and let them "talk"

her dad is scary HAHA
