your taxes pay our salaries as well as all of our benefits. we also pay taxes as well. you want to talk about how hard it is to get a referal for an mri or specialized treatment? give the military system of garbage a try. it took me so long to see a neuro specialist and to get an mri that i am crippled for life. you have to see all the military docs first before they will even consider sending you to outside care or specialists and that for us unless we are dying is a very very long process

you are going about it all wrong man. quit your job have 5-6 kids and make 70-80k a year and get free health care. that's what it is for right?

the way i see it you are probably one of the healthy ones that they are gunning for to sign up to pay for all the free loaders but they failed to take into account the simple fact that most of those healthy individuals cant afford that big of an increase. i hope this pos signature achievement fails epic and miserably. not saying anyone else has a better solution but all the blatant lies and inability to fess up for it makes me want him to be known as the worse president and admin in history

The bottom line is there is hardly any difference between the two parties. Political parties are the problem, there should not be any. As for socialized healthcare, single payer systems, etc, they are terrible. Government intervention is the problem with the system as it is with everything it's involved in, and insurance companies started this mess. There is no use debating this issue because only the small number of individuals with an open mind will possibly learn anything. Most people are biased and stick to a party line. Socialism is the problem, and as Ludwig Von Mises proved several decades ago in his book titled "Socialism", it always must fail. Below is a quote from Mises on the subject.

“Without calculation, economic activity is impossible. Since under Socialism economic calculation is impossible, under Socialism there can be no economic activity in our sense of the word … All economic change, therefore, would involve operations the value of which could neither be predicted beforehand nor ascertained after they had taken place. Everything would be a leap in the dark. Socialism is the renunciation of rational economy.” — Ludwig von Mises, Socialism, 1981, pp. 103-105.

Government intervention always leads to more government and less liberty. It doesn't matter which party is in office as they both love big government. Thus, we have always been on the road to totalitarianism. I don't say socialism because our government is closer aligned with corporatism, however there are many socialist policies and programs within our government. Yet socialism, corporatism, fascism, etc, all lead to totalitarianism eventually thereby destroying freedom.
Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master. George Washington

bandaidwoman, whats wrong with opening up state lines for insurance? im not sure why we didnt just start there than making this whole thing a federal program. the only thing that should be run at the federal level is our military, everything else should be run at the state level.

"It Takes About One Year for [Dept. of Veterans Affairs] to Process a New Claim"

      Nick Gillespie

You want a truly bipartisan outrage? Consider the abysmal and ongoing treatment of the nation's veterans by the Department of Veterans Affair (VA), which was made a cabinet-level agency in 1989.

It doesn't seem to matter much which party runs the White House or Congress. Despite an annual budget around $90 billion, the agency continues to do terrible work when it comes to taking care of the men and women who fight the government's wars. And after a decade-plus of fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, there are 2 million recent vets.

Here's a Reason TV video that explores what's wrong at VA, who gets hurt the most, and what can be done to make things better. Original release date: November 10, 2013.

Over the last 12 years, more than two million Americans have been deployed to fight in Iraq and Afghanistan. But for thousands who return home with injuries, another battle is just beginning - this time, with the Department of Veteran's Affairs (VA).

Upon enlistment, service members are promised that, should a service-related injury occur, the US government will provide them with care and financial compensation. The VA is responsible for providing this care but have been unable to render these services in a timely manner. The average wait time for a veteran to receive his or her benefits is one year.

President Obama sounded the alarm during a speech in August 2010, stating that it was the country's "moral obligation" to provide veterans with timely compensation. Under VA Secretary Eric Shinseki, the Obama administration promised that all claims would be processed within 125 days and with a 98 percent accuracy rating by the year 2015.

Despite Obama's speech, the backlog continued to grow, reaching a peak of nearly 900,000 pending claims with 70 percent backlogged in March of 2013. This past August, the numbers dipped slightly: nearly 800,000 pending claims with 63 percent backlogged.

The administration points to the August numbers as a sign of improvement, but reports of processing errors reveal a poor quality of work, with mistake in 30 percent or more of the claims that they process. Unfortunately for those waiting for assistance, when a mistake is made, the veteran must appeal. Once an appeal is filed, the average waiting time for the veteran is another four years.

that's a very sad and true fact swiper. it took me almost three years to get my findings back from the va (had to resubmit 6x so it didnt expire). then it took another 18 months to add my children which i gave all their info for when i submitted. then it took another 6 months to get back pay then another 6 months to get the back pay for my kids once it was approved. great system and they get nice hefty bonuses for doing a great job.

oh and as for the health care i am a tier 1 patient meaning i am the highest and get first serve. how long does it take me to get an appointment? local clinic minimum is 3 months. now if i want to go to the va hospital i can be seen the following week but it is a 3 hour drive. i have full dental also and when they sched my first check up it was 14 months away. love government health care so much i pay my co pay on my retirement insurance instead of using my free va care

i completely understand where your frustration lies in this. nothing with the government works out smoothly, nothing. its absolutely sickening when you have men and women who put their lives on the line for our country and here we are sending millions over to the people we are fighting yet we put our own on a waiting list.

what happened to taking care of our own.

i have begun to hate our government.
