Tweetmy father in law lives out in the country. he raised hens for laying for years. the eggs were just better than store bought. damn foxes and coyotes decimated them. he gave up.
he still buys a calf every year. feeds it up and then walks it to the deer processor they kill it there and he comes back for the meat.
that is some fine eating
TweetYou can also find livestock auctions and purchase an entire cow too. Its getting to that time of year that the county fairs will have auctions as well. Beef, chickens, lamb and even farm raised bison depending where you live. Just get in and start asking questions.
The price will vary but we purchase "on the hoof" and pay a meat processor to do the rest. Very cost effective.
Farmers markets are a good resource as well since you'd be dealing with producers on a face to face basis.
TweetI've always liked home grown eggs, even the different colors made choosing an egg more enjoyable ha ha! Taste way better to. Speaking of buying half a cow, that's the way to go. Just make sure you got a chest freezer big enough. We used to do that because my wife had a good friend who's family raised black angus. Damn that meat was tasty, and oh so soft...
Tweetthe half cow thing is next. still enoying the fresh egg find. lol hell I never knew eggs where blue.. whatever , they taste great and at 2.50 to 3.00 a dozen I,m in.. its nice knowing that these services where so close yet I never had a clue.
the great thing is im not out in the country and was able to find these home farms in what is almost is a mini fram type setting. its really cool.
TweetThanks never thought of craigs for that lol
