TweetI had a St. Bernard when I was little but Tolstoy died of old age. I wanted to get a dog when I was married but my wife wasn't to keen on the idea. I live by myself now and was thinking about caring for a dog.
TweetYou got it bro. Any lab. They are the most loyal, fun loving companion you could dream of. They derive hapiness from your happiness. If I so much as tell my dog no she is upset for hours. You would think I kicked the hell out of her. She is a sweetheart. She's a black lab named Matilda BTW.Originally posted by CrazyC

Mastif's are very drooly.
Huskys are just boring.
Akitas are kinda dumb.
I don't know much about St. Bernard's....
The burden of originality is one that most people don't want to accept. They'd rather sit in front of the TV and let that tell them what they are suppose to like, what they're suppose to buy, and what they're suppose to laugh at. You have Beavis and Butthead telling you what music you're allowed to like and not like, and you've got sitcoms that have canned laughter that lets you know when to laugh if you're too stupid to know when the joke is. People are too lazy and too stupid to think for themselves because America has raised them that way.

TweetI think a lot depends on your living environment. Do you have a large yard, etc.? How much time can you devote to the animal? Can you give it at least one solid hour of attention everyday?
I know you live in the fast lane - so take my advice Wally - get a tortoise. They are slow, don't care if you're around or not, and eat the leftovers from your salad.
Just trying to help an old friend.

i have a black lab named and she is everything you mentioned. I will only get black labs from now on. Best of all is, their pop is not huge like other dogs and they're not loud.
TweetBeen looking for a Lab myself lately , good family dogs .

Tweeti have three dogs. a rottie, a newfie and a bull terrier...they are all very loyal dogs....would do anything for me..i think you just have to find the dog for you, doesn't matter on the breed....my rottie is 160lbs. and he likes to curl up on the couch with me..the bull terrier is the same way though im starting to notice he is getting a little aggresive so im very careful with him around people...and the newfie? well you want a big dumb loving follow-you-around all the time kinda dog, this is the breed for you....

TweetMastiffs and Saint Bernards need a lot of attention and a lot of grooming care, so be prepared for that if you choose one of them. Also, consider that they can both eat and poop their bodyweight – if you know what I mean.
Also, I totally agree with bigjim about the German Shepherd. IMO there is no better dog than a German Shepherd.
