Tweetim not an older guy but im always curious to learn from them and see what they experience as one day i will be there so im in to see what everyone has to say.
TweetI think I may have come to the decision that bulking is way to hard on my body anymore. I find it increasingly difficult to cram calories, let alone move around at heavy weight. I began a current cycle at around 221 and sitting at 238 today...it's just difficult to move. I'll be 43 this year and maybe it's time to just strength train, just maintenance...I don't know. I like being big, but I don't think my body does. Curious if you guys have had any similar thoughts on this...is a passing thing? or has age got me? also injury recovery is not what it used to be. I have some personal issues that may be playing a role in my mental state, just struggling right now to find an answer.
PAIN DON'T HURT

Tweetwell i can say it all comes down to how you feel, me ill be 44 in a few months but i can say that i hover right around 215-220 but am trying to get to about 240. I have some minor aches and pains from old injuries but im pushing forward. i was as heavy as 250 and felt good at that weight but then again that was 15yrs ago too. I am going for a look more than a size or weight anymore an as far as heavy weight i train with them sometimes and do a local Power Lifting thing that the owner of my gym does. so you would be a wise man to just follow what your body is telling you and remember one thing age is only a number.anyhow just my 2cents

TweetExcellent topic. I just turned 44 and made my way back to the
Gym by way of trt. After feeling like crap for so long, I have dropped
Almost 60 lbs of fat and found my muscles responding well to
Lifting and supplements.
The reality for me is that I know I am not 24. I am the sole bread
winner in my house, and I cannot afford to be reckless or stupid
and injure myself.
I believe this is where a little wisdom can go a long way.
I will have to get down to 175 lbs to be shredded.
I want to lean bulk up to 200 and see how I feel, check my
numbers, and then make an educated decision to grow more.
You don't here a lot of guys talking about this stuff, so I really
appreciate the real talk. My trainer is 27 and trying to go pro
so it is not an easy subject to bring up.
Me and wisdom.
Who would have ever thunk it!
TweetThis is a great topic. I find putting more weight on has been an issue since I was 30. I'm now 35, always strong as an ox but I don't train for strength anymore at all. I could give a flying fig about my weights...it's about form form and more form...robotic perfection is the goal to avoid injury.
I was at a gym the other day and getting a lot of looks like normal but seeing shock in people's face as I'm front lateral raising 20lbs with perfection, veins popping and shear intensity. Them watching a 120lb punk curl "tossing" (lol) 50lb dumbbells and him asking me why he can't get a bicep pump....
Zoot I'm with you 100%. As we age we give up things for me with putting weigh on comes injuries and I just dislike that!
TweetIve often said the real test of how healthy you are is how well you can sprint. Its such a primitive movement. Its raw. I know when I am carrying extra weight, I sprint and it feels like my joints are concrete, evey step is a jolt...when I am at a good weight, I can go out and sprint hard and it feels awesome
TweetI'm 52 closing in on 53 and it isn't fun. I am in better shape then 99.9% of those in my age group and it still sucks. Things hurt that shouldn't, I get hurt more training, my endurance is lower etc. It is a pain in the ass getting older but it happens and we can fight it through diet and training, but you can't stop it.
Tweeti will be 45 this year and thats where I am at! no more power lifting or strongman stuff for me. going to drop some fat and just be healthy and enjoy life. i started at the first of the year. down to 260 from 280 and down to about 16%bf and most of it is on my gut. i just want to look and feel good and not hurt or worry about what i eat or dont eat.

TweetITS HARD TO ACCEPT...I KEEP THINKING I CAN LIFT LIKE I DID 10 YEARS AGO...IT AINT HAPPENENING! HAVE TO LIFT SMARTER, NOT HARDER NOW!
TweetI am only 25. At least that's what I tell the chicks. You just have to do what you think is best zoot. Maybe its not the bulk that's bothering you. Maybe you just need something to motivate you. Do a power meet close to you. Or me and you can go head to head in a comp I will try to motivate you buddy. You just need something to work for.
