      Hey all,

I have been a coffee drinker my entire life.
During contest prep, I get just about all the pain and aches in the world whenever I cut it out for 12 weeks---I become a real pain in the rear end.

Lately it has been out of control, the last 12 months i shug down 5 daily!! I work a lot, so i am up from 4:30AM to around 8PM most days.

I NEED to detach from it, I want to, but don't know how.

      Any ideas??

Im a coffee junkie myself but have never seen a problem with it.You say you chug 5 a day? Thats really not bad brother.I sometimes drink 2 24oz coffee by noon. know that any think that too much coffee is bad but there has been so many studies debunking this myth and in fact show the benefits of drinking more coffee.

I love to drink coffee/protein drinks as well so I get the added bonus of caffeine and protien.

Why do you think you're out of control and have to quit?

      Coffee
Order your java fully loaded: Caffeinated coffee might help protect against Alzheimer’s disease, according to researchers at the University of South Florida. In a study, scientists gave mice that were bred to develop Alzheimer’s disease either caffeinated coffee, decaf, or straight caffeine. They found that the regular coffee increased the levels of a brain-boosting hormone (granulocyte colony stimulating factor), which reduced symptoms of the disease. The hormone spurs the production of new neurons and creates connections between existing ones, researchers found. The key to reaping the benefits is the amount of coffee you take in: You’ll need about four cups of drip coffee each day spread out until about 4 p.m. (Later than that, and it could keep you from falling asleep.)

15 Things You Gotta Know About Coffee

Here’s what you need to know about your cup of Joe:
      1. Coffee is the number-one source of antioxidants in the America diet, according to Joe A. Vinson, PhD, a professor of chemistry at the University of Scranton who has studied coffee extensively.
      1. Caffeine may protect brain cells from the damage that causes Parkinson’s, dementia, and Alzheimer’s. And the antioxidants in coffee could help prevent liver disease.
      2. Coffee may make you thin. The caffeine in coffee can speed up metabolism and fat-burning, which helps lower your risk of type 2 diabetes and obesity.
      3. Black coffee is rich and delicious, but has zero calories.
      4. Coffee drinkers may be at lower risk of liver and colon cancer
      5. Caffeine is a diuretic, meaning that it can make you dehydrated, but it also unpuffs your eyes (which is why a cup of coffee after a night of overindulgence makes sense).
      6. Coffee can increase longevity. Studies have found that people who drank coffee regularly—up to six cups a day—were less likely to die of various causes during the study than their non-coffee-drinking counterparts.
      7. The caffeine in coffee can stay in your system for up to 12 hours, making it more difficult to fall and stay asleep. If you really can’t sleep, experts recommend quitting coffee altogether, or at least stopping after your morning cup.
      8. The average coffee drinker downs about three cups each day.
      9. Coffee may curb appetite by altering levels hormones naturally released to control things like hunger or fullness.
      10. Coffee can raise blood pressure, so if you have that problem, it’s smart to switch to decaf.
      11. Coffee drinkers in the U.S. tend to have a higher household income than non-coffee-drinkers.
      12. Decaf coffee may contain caffeine. A 2007 Consumer Reports study found that “decaffeinated” coffees sold at several chain restaurants varied widely, containing up to 32 mg of caffeine per cup—about the same amount in 12 ounces of cola.
      13. Coffee isn’t the only source of caffeine; it comes from lots of surprising sources.
      14. If you want to kick the coffee habit, it’s best not to go cold turkey.

You java junkies! Lol! I'm not a big coffee drinker myself, but I just got my wife a French press coffee maker, and everything else needed to make it right. I must say, it is a world of difference from those drip machines.

DANG FIST you really put things into prespective hahahaha I LOVE THOSE FACTS!!

To be honest I absolutely love the stuff, I can't get enough of it.
But I am finding that I can't sleep---and I have been running melatonin DAILY for 95% of the last 14 months.

I did know several of those PLUSES about caffein intake. But is it in part why I can't sleep at nights anymore, unless I take 3mgs melatonin? Or is it more stress related than caffein?

I did not know there were other NUTS like me who survived on coffee hahhaaha.

It does not supress my appetite at all. SPARKS my workouts LIKE NO OTHER ---I have never used pre workouts in my entire life, but coffee.

i cut out coffee when i had an ulcer. it was horrible. i only drink 1 good sized cup a day but i feel your pain

i figure if i ever have to do it again i will start brewing coffee with increasing amounts of decaf. then ramp down by 1 cup after several days until i am off.

      sounds good in theory

i did cut back a couple years ago when i was drinking 5-6 cups throughout the day. especially in winter
