      Hello Team!!

Alright, what better place to come and get over all and diverse feedback and cooments, than from some of the guys I have known for over 7 years.

I write a lot, but will be brief!

As some of you may know, I have been in the fitness industry for over 15 years. I have been doing personal training for just under 2 years.
I have an University, and I have a couple of other smaller degrees.

I have owned a restaurant for around 5 years now, it is very successful Bistro style--high end food.
I left the bistro 2 years ago, to school myself once again, and got a bunch of certifications for personal training. I own the restaurant and I run it, but I have a close friend chef in charge.

I am currently number 5th trainer in the company, out of over 5000 trainers across Canada. This placing is based on revewnue, hours worked, efficiency and a few other logistics.

I have been booked and over booked for the last 12 months, and right now as it stands I am booked for the next 8 months as well.

So i am making just over 80k. But i am busting my ass 6 days straight. I barely sleep, and all I see is numbers hahahahahhah and clients files.
I have 18 clients full time, this is the max the company will allow, physically speaking this is chaotic!

I have had this huge idea the last 6 months, its running in my blood and it has become my drive:

to open up a club of my own.

In order to do this, I would have to liquidate my bistro, and probably borrow around 150k from the bank.
I am projecting the operation to cost around 300k.
I also have a close friend who is an investor, with heavy money to put out, should this thing move forward.

People talk about owning their own dreams, but very few CAN actually materialize their vision. Some don't ever move on forward for fear of failure.

This kind of failure however, can put a bullet in any mans head.

Given that the trend : "get in shape" seems to be strong now a days, and people are more aware of their body, what can go wrong???

I just want to scatterbrain with some of you here. I believe that a few own smaller studios at thier home or basements.
Don't know that any own a bigger operation?

      Thoughts and views please!!

I would start small and you can always expand.

Funny you brought it up I was looking online yesterday for information on doing the same.

I have a good friend who just bought a big ass house w/ a private gym on its property. The gym is fully loaded, and has had continuous membership forever. So now that bastard gets to workout anytime he wants, and collect monthly memberships from the users. ****er already gets enough from eing a doctor, but he's pretty jacked too lol!

I guess what im saying is its a crap shoot. I've read of another guy doing the same thing, but he could not get the numbers he needed to make it profitable. He eventually started selling equipment just to stay open, until he had enough and closed up shop, which absolutely crushed him...

      Good posts.

A friend trainer with whom I worked with for 1 year...he then moved on. He has opened his own thing together with his girlfriend, and they have 2-3 private investors.
They base their operations on FUNCTIONAL training. he is also very smart guy, and she is an ex pro dancer.

They built from scratch, and built their business near an up and coming area of the city. for sure they must have some money sitting there, to help them survive the first 1-2 years, before they see any profit.

I have done lots of research on the Canadian side. It really depends on how big teh location will be, that will dictate the over head that will need to be carried for whatever months prior to profit coming in.

Even after 'profit' starts to come in, there is still the initial investment to earn back.

Owning your own business can definitely be a dream come true and also a nightmare many times bro. With working for someone else, you have time off. When you own your business there is never time off.Taing time away is always scary and stays in your head all the time. For me,no matter how long I have employees with me,I always fear that things wont go the same as when im there. You ever see the movies where the family goes on vacation and the husband can never get off the phone nor the computer with his job, thats me.LOL.

You seem to have good thing going with the company that you're with and sounds like you're making decent money without many of the behind the scenes troubles if you owned the place.Just a lot of things that you have to deal with legally, and otherwise.

Just things to think about bro.Im not trying to step on this dream of yours just trying to help you keep things in perspective.

The question you need to really focus on is "WHY DO YOU WANT TO OWN YOUR OWN CLUB"? Is it for more free time? Is it for more money? Is is for less stress? Or is it just because it has been your dream? Many get into the idea that they NEED to own something....a house or a car or even a business but never really ask themselves why?

Now being a business owner do I regret it? At times yes.Did I miss things with my children early in life that I could have been there for if I didnt own? Yes.Have I made a good living from it? Yes.Has there been times when I wanted to put my head or many others heads through the wall over my business? HELL YES!! Would I do it all again? Probably so.

Just make sure you think it through completely and ask yoursef those questions. WHY? If you have the answer and it outweighs the reasons why not to,then go for it.Just do it slow and safe brother.

FIST every time I talk to you, via pm or open post, you always talk rreal nice!!

I ran a private construction company for 6 years right after University. I think I gained 10 years during those times. I can't tell you how stressful my job was, and it was a 24/7 my head was always on the go. I absolutely loved it though.

I have owned a restaurant for just around 5 years now. Let me tell you that running and owning a business is very interesting, as yes one deals with multiple personalities....there are no holidays, there is no ME time. The cell is always ringing. I have become used to cell calls any dy of the week.

You are correct, I am making good money working for somebody else, and I am on target to hit the 100k mark by next December.
But as I look around: I want and need more.
I have so much more to offer. I want to reach hundred of people to get them into shape. To give them the opportunity to experience life without knee pain, or low back pain, or shoulder pain....or my main stream: put more people on stage to win more shows. (bodybuilding and fitness)

Working for the company right now, I am an independent trainer. I work as much as I want.....there are trainers who struggle in the industry, becuae they don't understant that, YOU make as much money as you want, as long as you are willing to make sacrifices.

Opening up this club/project will be a process. This could take 2 years, but I know that once the ball starts rolling, it will not stop.

In a nut shell, I am humble, but I am hungry for more out of life!!!
Money is not enough success in life for me.

I have several meetings the next few weeks, to see who will join the idea.

I would want to go small time, but I do understand how SERIOUS it will be if I were to go all out.

The equation can't fail me: When I am coaching new trainers, I tell them: If you mimmic what successful people are doing, copy it, practice it, costumize it so that it suits YOU. I promise you that you will not fail!!!!

Thanks for the kind words my friend.

I know you have a passion for what you do and thats great. To be able to love what you do is what everyone wants in life.

Like I said brother, you're doing good now and are doing what you love so will it be different if its your club? Remember success come sin many forms and you seem to have found it already and are blessed because of it.Either way, whatever your decision,I know you will have the same success and happiness because of the drive and passion you have for it.I know whether your an independant employeee or an employer, you'll do great.

Best wishes my friend in whatever you decide.

P.S. if you remember last year when I was engaged to marry.
My relationship failed becauase I was pulled from many directions. The Bistro, and personal training.

But I knew that I need to make them both succcessful.....but could not keep my girl. I was spending too much time at work.

I am seeing somebody right now, but I am ready to cut her off as well, and submerge myself into more success.

I always say: nobody can stop you, but you!! So keep the fckk going!!!
