Tweetoh yea for sure you should atleast have a protein shake with some complex carbs
TweetFinished talking to a guy at the gym who's phucking ripped to the bone - he advises eating a small meal prior to going to the gym (1 - 1 1/2 hours) thereby preventing any catabolic activity... I workout in the mornings (early - 0430-ish) usually on an empty stomach or with an NO2 type product 1/2 hour prior to weight training. What are your thoughts on the subject of eating prior to working out - I suppose this question is mainly at those who workout in the morning. Thoughts?

TweetThe majority of my workouts are after 6:00 PM. I have two small packets of instant oatmeal about 30-45 minutes prior to workout.
Push it, Pull it, Rack it. Repeat untill wide!!
Take nothing I say as serious, What do I know, I sell water!!

Tweetwhen i used to work out in the am (0500) I would always have a quick shake before I hit the gym.
TweetNo matter what time i try to carb load before i workout...either oatmeal, protein bar, toast with my breakfast.....or brown rice with my lunch.

TweetNEVER have been a fan of eating pre-workout. If your a hard gainer, by all means... If you are TOTALLY carb depleted and it will effect your workout yes, otherwise I say NO and use the extra calories post workout to promote an insulin response with simple carbs and drive those aminos into the worked muscles.
TweetThe other guys have good points, but from my personal experience, it's better to not have anything, unless you are a hard gainer.
Especially if you're trying to trim down....let that carb depletion allow your body to tap into fat stores for energy.
The guy at the gym was, as you mentioned, very ripped. That might be applicable for him, but you might need to do some trial and error for yourself.
GOOD LUCK BRO
