      hi all,

a mate of mine has asked me to help him get started on a weight program as well as diet.he is an insulin dependant diabetic for the past 4-5 yrs.he is around 32yrs old,6ft 2,around 94kg(206lbs)
the past couple of months has had trouble keeping his sugar levels under control,i personaly think its diet related as his diet is terrible.he is sitting with a relativaly high bf level(i would estimate around 20-21%.

i am confidant in getting his training program up and running, but i am conserned on getting his diet right,i would like to see him drop bf down to more in the region of 12%.now i diet utilising carb restrictions etc etc,but dont feel this will be suitable for a diabetic.for those with expierience could you please suggest tips and suggestions to help me put this together.a.try get sugar levels stable and b.start to drop bf.

      your assistance is appreciated

      thanks

I am dead tired, this all I can share with you tonight

My dad is insulin dependant so I have spend some time with this issue.

He needs to check his sugar levels beforre working out, if it is above 300 he should NOT workout. over 200 and it is still a concern.

does he track his sugar levels,
      what are his averages,
how many shots a day is he taking....
he needs to check with his insurance, most will pay for nutritional counseling

I thought I knew a lot about nutrition, I was always telling my dad this and that....Things are definitely different for diabetics...remember if his sugar levels go too high or especially too low it could mean his life... i applaud your efforts, please be careful.....and remember NO EXERCISING IF HIS LEVELS ARE 300+

      thanks all,

appreciate the tip of no training 300+.going to spend some time researching, for the time being going to clean up his diet, increasing protein and good quality carbs bringing him to just below maintenance, but eating 6-7 times a day and some quality carbs before bed(he has been waking up slightly hypo st 3am).

anything else comes to mind i would appreciate the assistance.

      thanks again
