TweetIf getting lean is your goal, meat protein is your friend. Better to cut out all simple carbs and for sure all sugar. An excess of protein may add to fat but eating meat 3 times a day will actually lean you out. Protein from meat takes calories to utilize and break down unlike protein powder.
If lean is your goal eat meat my friend.
Tweeti would starve to death if all i did was shakes

TweetMe too. Also you have to have fatty acids which there is all but none in shakes. If you do real low fat, low carbs and lots of protein you will end up in gluconeogenesis where your liver starts to convert protein into sugar. You loose the daily protein intake goal because a large percentage is being used to make fuel.
Dirtwarrior, do you not like meat? One could grill a bunch of chicken breast on Sunday and eat it during the week if it is a convenience thing.
IMO protein powder is an ancillary to whole food. We use protein powder because it is so easily and quickly assimilated in the body. Meat takes time and calories to digest so not only do you get a mild thermogenic effect (more so with beef) but you also get a steady stream of amino acids to feed your muscles where as the powder is more quickly taken up and does not have "Muscle feeding power" over hours.
I think you should use protein shakes as a supplement to food. that is what they are, not a food.
Best of luck bro.
