Is anything wrong with getting most of your protein from powder? Keeping micro and micro nutrients in check and spreading the shakes pretty even through the day?

I think you will be missing out on fatty acids, minerals, creatine (unless you supplement which most of us do)

These will bring your nutrition to a sub optimal level unless you supplement like a vegetarian. I will never give up meat.

I will eat meat but not as much. I still have some MCT oil along with fish oil. I used to take a multi vitamin but now take the individual vitamins some work better different times of day and some do not play well with others.
      Thanks guys

I do drink shakes, but I try to get most of mine from food. Like Guns said though you have to do what you have to do to make it work. There are times when I'm busy and can't get some meals in, so I'll substitute more shakes if needed to make sure I'm hitting my goals.

If getting lean is your goal, meat protein is your friend. Better to cut out all simple carbs and for sure all sugar. An excess of protein may add to fat but eating meat 3 times a day will actually lean you out. Protein from meat takes calories to utilize and break down unlike protein powder.

If lean is your goal eat meat my friend.

Me too. Also you have to have fatty acids which there is all but none in shakes. If you do real low fat, low carbs and lots of protein you will end up in gluconeogenesis where your liver starts to convert protein into sugar. You loose the daily protein intake goal because a large percentage is being used to make fuel.

Dirtwarrior, do you not like meat? One could grill a bunch of chicken breast on Sunday and eat it during the week if it is a convenience thing.

IMO protein powder is an ancillary to whole food. We use protein powder because it is so easily and quickly assimilated in the body. Meat takes time and calories to digest so not only do you get a mild thermogenic effect (more so with beef) but you also get a steady stream of amino acids to feed your muscles where as the powder is more quickly taken up and does not have "Muscle feeding power" over hours.

I think you should use protein shakes as a supplement to food. that is what they are, not a food.

      Best of luck bro.

if you are having issues getting the food in man i would use white fish and salmon. i personally use it and my digestion is garbage and it process through fast as all hell. i have also found that if i cut up my protein source really small or put it in a food processor and pulse it down into a little smaller than pulled pork size. it digests much easier and faster. fiber supps also help out a lot and stay away from diary and anything that irritates or makes you bloat. you could also look into a gi map lab that will tell you what not to eat and what your guts need to work properly
