Fish is a must if you’re looking to pack on lean muscle, and two of the best (and most wallet-friendly) options are salmon and tuna. Each is a surefire way to get a heavy dose of protein, but to find out which is really the better option, we turned to Karen Ansel, R.D., spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Her take:

“Salmon may have more calories,” she says, “but for an active guy, that’s not so bad. For those extra 16 calories per serving, you get heart-healthy fats, nearly as much calcium as a glass of milk, and almost an entire daily dose of vitamin D, which is almost impossible to find in other foods—including tuna.”

      Tuna Salmon
      Cost Per Can $1-2 $2-3
      Calories 181 197
      Protein 33g 28g
      Saturated Fat > 1g > 2g
      Fat 4g 9g
Intangibles Vitamins B12, B6, Selenium Heart-Healthy Fats, Vitamin D, Calcium

      *** WINNER: SALMON ***

Nice info I hate both of them i wish I liked them great omega 3 and protein but I can't stand a fishy tasting fish if that makes since I like a bland fish like flounder trout or catfish. Only way I can get tuna or salmon down is put in a blinder with pineapple juice mix and drink the acid from the pineapple takes away a lot of the taste

I eat a lot of tilapia, not my favorite but most cost effective. good salmon is pricey and tuna is hard for me to really get at with out mayo and apples.. seems so dry cod and halibut are my favorite but ya.. expensive

I like them both but tuna is loaded with mercury. I read somewhere that people should limit their tuna intake to like one can a week due to the high mercury, which can cause brain and neurological damage.. The larger the fish, the higher the mercury and if you ever saw a Tuna, they are some big som*****es.
I love tuna mixed with some miracle whip and sweet pickle relish. oh man

If you have Ruby Tuesday, I highly recommend the honey bourbon salmon with grilled brussels sprouts. If it wasnt so late, I would go get me some right now

haha, I was just thinking about that. I sure wish I could do that because sardines are a great source of cheap protein, but man, I just cant get used to those things. I buy them for my dog, but I dont eat them

salmon patties fried in olive oil are good but it canned salmon as good as fresh. Also I think if must be wild caught to have all the omega 3s and benefits.

Right here, bud....but with double broccoli. I will try the grilled sprouts now that you mention it. Something about the words grilled and char brings out the caveman in me.
