When a man learns the news that he has a little baby girl on the way, he probably pulls his shotgun out, preparing to scare the hell out of a kid that doesn’t even exist yet. Calm down dads, if you have or plan on having a loving and strong relationship with your little girl, chances are she’ll be very picky about her relationships…just like you. Coming from a family of divorced parents, I know how important it is to build strong relationships with both of your parents. Although, the daddy/daughter bond can be quite an experience and can shape a young girl into the woman she may become in the future. Besides, the phrase “daddy issues” didn’t just come out of nowhere.
Dads, lets put the scare tactics away for now and see if some of these tips on how to raise a little girl can’t ease your protective heart…

1.) Let her dance with her little feet on your feet.

2.)Remember she will always be your perfect little girl, but give her freedom to grow up.

3.) Spend one on one time with her, even if you’re fixing up your old vintage convertible or doing yard work. After all, teaching your little princess how to hammer a nail may make her more independent as a woman and give her confidence in the workplace.

4.) When her body starts to change, don’t freak out or make her feel uncomfortable. Remain calm and let her know you are always there for her.

5.) Don’t be disrespectful to her mom or other women in front of her. We all argue and get upset, but choose your words and actions carefully as this may influence her future relationships.

6.) Laugh with her. Tickling, funny movies or silly games just between the two of you are moments she will never forget.

7.) Don’t constantly yell to get your point across, instilling fear in your daughter is hurtful and when she does mess up she will turn away from you, seeking refuge elsewhere.

8.) She’s going to have big dreams, let her follow them with nothing but love and support. I wanted to be an actress and moved to LA on a whim when I was 22, I’m sure my dad was worried about me but I’ll always remember that he was proud of me for taking such a big risk.

9.) Treat her like the strong, independent female she is and she’ll want that for herself when committing to someone.

10.) Refer to women with respect.

11.) Ask her about her interests, relationships and her life in general, often and make sure you really listen. She’ll feel comfortable seeking your advice knowing you genuinely care.

12.) Have daddy/daughter dates and treat her with chivalry. She’ll think of these things when she goes on an actually date when she’s 30…just kidding about being 30, never going to happen Dad. Don’t forget to open all her doors! Since day one of meeting my step dad he has always opened mine and my mom’s car door…years later he still does it.

13.) Do her hair or paint her toes when she is little. Trust me, it’s fun.

14.) Encourage her to play a sport or play street hockey with the boys, think of how proud you’ll be when she kicks their butts!

15.) When she does grow up, remember the irreplaceable bond you have and the moments of cuddles and confidence you provided when she needed it most, because she will always need you.

      Really?

Reduce this to 3 things: and Rake may be able to have done them. LOL
