      Onions, views and anything else on this:

      Was watching youtube the other day and came across am interview with Jay cutler.

      He said when he was competing in the 2001-2003 years he was only eating roughly 1g of protein per lbs of bodyweight usually never any more.

      Most of the diets and plans and stuff I've read says to eat at least 1g and up. He said one of the reasons for enlarged vguts is guys are eating way to much protein. But yet some of the diets I've seen him talk about or suggest he's eating upwards of 5-600g of protein during the way which would be more on the side of 2g per lbs.

      Anyway I'm just curious what your ideas and opinions on this are. Some of you know my least knowledgeable area is the area of nutrition and I've come to realize that's more important then the gear side so I'm just trying to gain more knowledge.

      haha, it is so generic on this topic man. it is all about macro breakdown and depends on what portion of your training you are in. most plans for dieting down with people that arent carb sensitive will only use 1g of protein per pound. now if you are carb sensitive then you will see that protein amount grow anywhere from 1.5 to 2 and even more. now if you transition over to lean gaining it will almost look the same but most will start at 1.5 and up. it is all on an individual basis and how your body tolerates what macro. i personally can eat 6lbs of pro leaning out and still get my waist size down around 32-33in no problem. so again your gut will grow with the off season a bit but it does and should come down

      He was saying something about eating as much as 1000g of carbs and like 280g of protein. But yeah I see what you mean. The body changes so much and everyone is different.

      that is exactly it. one macro is dominating the others. if i was a betting man his fat intake was probably also in the 50-100g range as well. now for a normal person that is carb sensitive that would go ahead and put them in stay puff marsh mellow mode in about 2 wks. if you look at his off season setup it would probably be the opposite end of the spectrum

      he very well could have done that at one point with 1000 carbs but he prob quickly found out it worked ok but not the best for him. he tends to get thicker in the off season back then so its proving that hes prob not doing 1g pro 3 to 4g carbs per lb bw. I bet hes more along the lines of 1.5 to 2. then what ever carbs and fats he needed to add the size. also by strategically placing your carbs and fats in the right areas of the day u can reduce the chances of extra adipose tissue deposits (fat). I firmly believe carbs and fats have a place in the day but on opposite times of each other.

      i eat a lot less than that. I might get 75-150 grams a day. my body responds the same as when i was doing 1.5-2 grams per#.

      from what i am reading and hearing from other coaches is the trend is moving more towards that approach. 1g pro per pound then mixing the rest of the cals with fat and carbs. the carbs or fat being adjusted to fit the individual of course. spoke with a couple buddies that are getting ready for the arnold (one male and one female) and their coach is doing that with them and they both look sick. now the down side they both said is they still have carbs cut every couple of weeks to keep pulling fat. the female idk if she will place well in physique but the 212 guy was in the top 5 last year and should move up. he had the flu last week and still looked nasty so hopefully it wont hurt him too bad

      I am not a body builder or power lifter anymore. I have to modulate protein to keep my mass down as I perform best at 160-165 #. heavier I hit harder but it is diminishing returns as i get tired faster.
