Tweetnot me personally but my uncle had them very bad. so bad that when he would go into one he would have to be taken to the hospital by ambulance. i cant remember the meds they had him on but he was killed in a car accident about 20 years ago. they think that it was one that caused him to crash.

Tweetthere are several different kinds. Grand Mal are probably what he had. I haven't had one of them yet but have others. That's terrible I am sorry guns

Tweeti wish i could remember what they had him on because it worked pretty well. he only had them on rarely after they got him on the meds. they had it under control well enough where he was still working his job. so it def can be controlled to a very good extent. now i should note that his came from severe head trauma when he was younger. so i dont know if that would make it work different for someone that has it hereditary

TweetWhen I was diagnosed 2 years ago, the doc put me on a med and I am still on it. I am thinking he needs to up the dose or change it. I would like not to be on it at all so I have to discuss that too.He did tell me there are about 17 different seizure meds out there now and they are also prescribed for nerve problems as well. gabapentin is a big one but not what I am on
Veritas Vos Liberabit
Tweetfunny you bring up the gabepentin. that's one of the first meds they put me on when i was injured and they figured out how extensively the nerve damage actually was. i went to pick it up and the pharmacist told me all the side effects and then i read the print outs on it. never took one dose of the stuff and waited about 3 wks and went back in and told the doc, hey man i cant take this stuff it is making me sick as crap and it is making me loopy. he says ok i am going to give you something for your stomach and a new med but you cant stop taking that one just yet because if you just stop it then you can and may have sseizures. hum, i found it kind of funny that wasnt brought up when he gave it to me to start with and what if i would have just stopped taking it?

Tweetmy pain doc has given me gabapentin for nerve pain to but I never took it. The seizure med I take doesn't help pain though. he also tried to give me lyrica and again.. nope, lol. I am a patient who surely cooperates... he is great though and just suggests but never pushes me
Veritas Vos Liberabit
Tweetyep same here but i only take when needed and not constantly. i refuse to take a med that i have to take other meds to counter the side effects from the med i need. that's not going to happen. the pain doc offered me amphetimines to counter my sleep and nerve meds. i said doc are your freaking crazy? i dont want to stop my heart for one thing and i refuse to be addicted to any meds. no freaking way

TweetRake had Pedi-Mal seizures after his head injury. He would be driving to a job site and have to pull over to the side of the freeway and call me so I could tell him where he was going. Basically the seizure completely erased his memory. After about 2 years of severe pain and many other problems we found a doc that put him on Neurontin. That worked really well but we couldn't afford it, we had no insurance. Doc put him on Tegretol, that was ok but would wear off as he got close to his next dose and he would still have seizures. A friend told us about Tegretol-E, an extended release that worked the best and he took it for over 10 years along with many other pain meds and sleep meds.
TweetFuzo had them to as a kid from a head injury but they subsided as he got older. Mine arent the result of a head injury. AS I think back, I believe I have had them for a very long time but at this age the changing hormones are making things worse. thanks for sharing Trixie. I the med I have been on was great but I am thinking I am gettimg to used to it . I will ask my doc about those others. Fuzo had taken Neurontin for nerve pain and it made him a zombie but many of those meds do. All I know is if I forget to take a dose of my med, I can tell with in 12 hours

Tweetgabapentin made me feel dizzy or drunk or something when I took it. A very uncomfortable feeling. Doctors make some decisions that should be common sense into a complete mess.
