I had gyno surgery this weekend and I'm going to post a daily log on how how the recovery is going. I know before this surgery, I researched it for years and it's hard to find a simple log on what to expect day by day from a bodybuilder's perspective. This was my first time having surgery and I was very scared, so hopefully this can shed some light on it for anyone who has to go through this.

A little background... My gyno flared up really bad about 10 years ago. I made a a lot of mistakes back then and one valuable lesson I learned was the importance of getting your blood work done. Once the gyno was to a level that could not be reversed, my protocol switched from prevention to maintenance in order to keep it from getting worse. I was able to manage it pretty well over the years, but it was still there nonetheless.

This is my second day post op, so my next two posts will be day 1 and day 2. If anyone has any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

      Day 1:

Morning of surgery was pretty nervous. I couldn't eat anything and my stomach was growling which made me even more anxious. Pre-op was a breeze and before I knew it, I was out. I came to in the recovery room and they said everything is done and went great. My doc injected me with a local long acting anesthetic at the end of the surgery, so I woke up in zero pain. At this point, the only discomfort I've felt through the entire process was the little bee sting feeling when they started my iv.

They already had my compression vest on that I will need to wear for the next few weeks, but it needed some adjustments. As they loosened the front of the vest, I got a quick peak at my chest and it was amazing. Gyno was gone. I went home after an hour with antibiotics, nausea medicine and pain medicine.

First day at home wasn't what I expected. Mostly just sore with very little pain, probably due to the local anesthetic my doc gave me before waking up. Watched movies with my girlfriend and slept the rest of the day. Only took 1 pain medicine before bed just as a precaution and slept all night. So far, much better than I expected.

      Day 2:

Woke up this morning a little sore, but nothing unbearable. I don't really need the pain medicine and have just been taking some Tylenol to manage the soreness. I feel weak and sleep most of the day, but all in all this is a much better experience than I was expecting so far. The pain factor has been pretty minimal and treated easily with Tylenol. It's more sore, than hurt.

The compression vest isn't the most comfortable thing to wear, but it's not bad. I have to wear it straight for the first 5 days and then 23 hours a day for the next 3 weeks. This is so all the skin will adhere back to the muscle now that the gland has been removed. I had a significant amount of gland. I have to keep my arms by my sides only moving my forearms and I can't reach for anything. Like a T-Rex. I would definitely suggest you have someone that can help you do even the smallest things.

The first two days have been mostly some soreness and a lot of sleeping. My appetite is strong and I'm eating, which is good because I can't train for a few weeks. Time for dinner and a couple more Tylenol before bed.

I got a lil too back in the day, bout the size of almonds. I thought I was just itchy from shaving then I felt the lil lumps. I got pretty worried ofcourse and had a Mamogram (yes ladies I understand), anyway it came up Gyno and I was relieved bigtime ! I get kinda bugged by it when I lift my arms and look in the mirror, but I have seen guys that don't lift, and natural so It's not so bad but something I'll definitely be watching out for again. I'm glad everything is coming along in your healing (mind & body). this is an important subject and a great idea, thanks for posting and take care Brother.

So did you have gyno issues or bad side affects that you didnt attend to when you were younger? Causing the need for surgery?

      Great idea bro.

Question though, you pay out right or your insurance cover it? If insurance did then how did you go about getting the doctor to agree on surgery for it?

I actually had very mild gyno when I went through puberty, but it went away shortly after. Once I was older and began bodybuilding, it started to flare up when I was on. I was young and pretty careless back then, so I didn't catch it when I should have.

They gave me a prescription Tylenol. I haven't needed it though. I've been able to manage the soreness from OTC extra strength Tylenol. I'm not a huge fan of acetaminophen, but they said other otc pain relievers could cause bleeding.

I paid for it out right and went to a plastic surgeon. I've heard of some guys getting insurance to pay for it, but very rarely. Even though I did have it mild when going through puberty, I didn't even attempt to get it covered by insurance.
