lol, I believe it is another way to keep overhead costs down. people have to return carts to get their money back and this saves time and money on having another employee to leave the store to round up carts...at least that is what I think the reason is

If you look around you can find cheap things to boost your diet some. I add canned salmon to my eggs some days. If you talk to a butcher at the super market alot of times they will have deals on meat they didnt cut exactly right. Oatmeal, beans, ramen noodles, peanut butter. All that stuff is fairly cheap.

I like a few PB&J's on 12 grain bread throughout the day as a nice little snack.

All good ideas. I have five kids and so we bargain shop. We don't go to Walmart or sams because we can get food cheaper at dillons. We use a dillons card and lots of coupons. I will give you some shopping tips. Go early in the morning before all the sales have been sold out. Always use a coupon and also double coupons. Most small stores will have managers specials and buy one get one free on meat as they get old. I will buy a full tenderloin on sale and then have the butcher cut it into slices. Whe usually get bone in chicken for 50cent a lb we buy ten lbs for 5 dollars. You cab keep in touch with the people at the deli usually by the end of the day the fully cooked Cornish chickens will be around 2 dollars some time 2 for 2 dollars. Usually when the deli is closing they will throw everything away like mac and cheese baked beans potato salad if they don't just give it to you they will sell it very cheap. Each department will have someone you can talk to about when the sales start and when things are going to be marked down. Clearence isles are a great place to find cheap bread. Milk is another one that usually is on sale. Milk, bread, eggs, beans, tuna, canned salmon are all really cheap and have good fat and protein.
But to me its saving money on meat that allows me to spend more on other items. Also you can go to dollar stores to buy your shampoo, soaps, lotion, dish soap ect.
Go online and down load printable coupons. Wednesdays and sundays paper have lots of coupons and you can usually buy several papers and double up on coupons. We shop on Friday sat sunday because dillons doubles the fuel points on the weekends. Plus every Friday you get a free Friday downloand. They do a five for five deal that's really good to buy condiments and anything else.
Squats make the world go round.
