ive got these horrible knots in my back near the lower rhomboids that feels like its near and/or under my shoulder blades that are getting tense. yesterday from just a simple touch it felt like how a freshly soar muscle would feel, and the pain intensified into my kneck, ear, as well as down to my toes as the pressure from hand or elbow intensified.

any suggestions on how to alleviate or relax certain areas like these that are knotted?

Have you done any thing that would strain those muscles? Dead lift, squat, bend over wrong??

You might be slightly dehydrated. That would do it. Try some minerals also

Those are definitely trigger points, when pressed they cause referred pain to other areas. I get them in those spots to but I tend to get them all over due to fibromyalgia. The best things to help them is warmth on that area and/or foam roller but in that area, a tennis ball will hit it better. Hold pressure on that area, and it will hurt but it helps loosen it up. Hydrate well after rolling. If you can find a place that does trigger point massage, they can work wonders too. I have gotten them for years and they can be very painful. I have some good things I have posted on here about them. Let me look for them and I will put the links in here for you

baby1 already pretty much covered it but hit the spots with a tennis ball then work your way up to a lacross ball. it is brutally painful but getting them broken up completely is the only way you are going to get any comfort. the bad side is if you let them go they dont go away on their own

i definitely need to use my foam roller more often. i leave it in my office so i can access anytime during the work day, however ive got a bad habit of leaving it there.

thanks for posting this, it looks like the best way to handle these knots aka trigger points is from massaging or constant pressure, and staying properly hydrated.

this works really well....i tend to go towards a lacross ball since they are harder, foam rolling in the area helps, and then an epsom salt bath to sooth the muscle

but like someone else said, drink water the whole time your doing it because your probably going to released a lot of toxins which could cause a bit of dehydration
