I know this has probably been asked here but i figure since i cant find it ill ask. What do you guys think as far as eating meals vs. drinking shakes. Now im not saying drink nothing but shakes because that is the hershey squirts just begging to ruin the day, but just one vs. the other. I know Rich Pianna is huge about not drinking shakes but i see the fucker doing it in a lot of his videos so to me he is a hipocrite. Also Mark Lobliner makes a valid point that you are still getting the protien regardless if its food or shake. Your body digest it the same way. You chew your food and your body breaks it down into liquid so it can start pulling nutrients from it. So by drinking a shake you are just skipping the breakdown part a little better. Ive never done links so lets see if this works lol

      - Rich Pianna

      - Mark Lobliner

      Who is right. Lets discuss

I do a mix of both. I don't like just whey shakes u have to have some carbs and fats just like a meal so I try to have a mrp or mix my whey with milk. I grow bigger if I get more whole foods in but sometimes I have to have three maby four shakes a day because of work.

I got shredded one time in the 90s drinking 8 packs a Met-rx a day and some broccoli. That was all I ate for about 3 months LOL
Not saying that is right to do, but I did do it

Piana says to use egg whites in a weight gain shake. Why not the whole egg? If youre trying to gain weight, eat the whole damn egg!

I think it just depends where you are and what you need at the time. I cant bring an Egg sandwich with me everywhere I go and the local kwik stop has shit to eat so, I have a shake to meet my needs. I would always pick food over a shake If it could provide the macros I need. The other thing is sometimes when I'm bulking its just easier on me to have a shake than pound down a huge meal. Shakes have their place.

here is my take: foods are way way more important than shakes across the board. your body has to work to process those foods so it will enhance cal burning for one and for 2- who actually likes being hungry immediately after having a shake when they dont get anything else for 2 and a half 3 hours. i honestly believe and i have been told by some pretty big successful dudes that whole foods are number 1 for both. now for shakes they have a time and place. you can have a shake if you dont have time to have a full meal(you should be able to house a full meal in 10 mins or less) and or work doesnt permit you to have food. the middle of the night is another good time to sneak one in for extra protein and cals. it is more of a personal pref which option you take but i want the most out of what my body will give so i opt for whole foods 99% of the time

Good opinions about this , and I think this won't be the last time we see a post like this .
I used to be ALL into shakes until my REAL appetite kicked in , then food it was !!!
I rather eat food than have a shake but like most of u said , sometimes there really is no time for food and a shake will do !!!
I try to have a weight gain shake sometime during mid day and post workout with a meal .
I feel as if I just have a post shake it doesn't fill me up but food and a shake does it for me .
And I'm always wakin up throughout the nite so if I can't have my Oreos, a bowl of cereal, a sandwich, something food wise , then a shake it is !!!

See i would rather eat food like most of you guys because it does have a variety of different things inside of it. My shake is pretty much straight protein that way I'm not adding in things i don't need. for me it is hard to get the amount of protein i need during the day. I just cant stomach all of the food. I only weigh 180 so im just not huge enough to be grubbin out like a madman all day. Im trying though
