I had never done it before but have this lagging ass shoulder issue and have just become used to the fact It would not go away. figured I screwed my rotator cup up and I was justed screwed. after another night of painful crap I broke down and went to a guy who had been recommended to me, a bit of a drive but what ever. needless to say after an hour of complete hell with some dude physically trying to rip my muscle off the bone I can honestly say my shoulder is ALOT better. this type of massage is not for the timid, I had tears at points but holy crap it works. I would highly recommend anyone with muscle pain go try this out. I prolly will have to go back for a few more sessions over the next few months to complete the fix ( said I was in pretty bad shape.. I have to agree.) but well worth the pain .

Sounds like you had more of a Trigger Point massage. they are brutal but if someone knows how to work those out, you can get amazing relief. Glad you feel better

Tigger Point massage DOES work. Very important to drink lots of water following any massage, especially TPM. If you have trigger points. tthey are supposed to apply hard pressure on them (and it will hurt like hell). This in turn helps break it up and release toxins, hence why it is important to drink fluids after to flush out those toxins. Trigger points caues referred pain so when they are applying pressure on them you should feel referred pain to another area. For example, many peopl who experience shoulder pain have trigger points in the neck, so with that, the real cause of the pain needs to be worked on or all the rubbing one can do of the shoulder will not take away the pain for good. Glad to hear you feel better

you hit it on the head exactly.. that is what he did and yup 1 gallon water after was told to be the minimum . it was kinda cool to notice that he would apply direct pressure in one place and you would feel it way off in another.

This is eaxctly a confirmation of what is causing your pain when this happens. Another example would be the IT band that runs along the out thigh from the hip to the knee. Some people with knee pain really are loaded with trigger points along the side of the leg, causing the knee pain. This happens a lot in runners. If you ever get this area worked on or foam roll itr...talk about hurting like hell, lol.

It seems like half the youtube videos you see with pros involve them getting massages. I've always wondered if massages in some way allow for more cell growth, as they are being repositioned from what could be years of inflammation build-up and what have you.

It sounds like you had a really good experience with it. You found the guy by word of mouth? My experiences with chiropractors and "health spas" (you know, those free hour long massage gift cards) has not been as positive.

you need to find a sports meds place that offers those services man. you want deep tissue work for athletes and art if you have someone in your area that does it. another trick you can do besides the foam roller or rumble roller is to use a tennis or ping pong ball to hit the trigger points yourself. it isnt the same as a specialist but you can help yourself out quite a bit

Honestly man I'm slightly intimidated by how painful it sounds. I train six days a week, and I think after that kind of massage you'd have to take alittle bit of time off to recover.

I like to leave things in the hands of the professionals. With my luck I'll roll shit further out of place. I'll have to look into a sports med place in my area though, this sounds like something that could be very beneficial. I have been training for just shy of 10 years now, and have not once had one of these sports massages.
