egg whites, primarily as a protein source keeps your body in an anabolic state while burning fat throughout the night. also why they say to kickstart your mornings with solely protein as well. carbohydrates after a fasted state (nighttime) initiate the body to begin using energy from what you've just consumed. protein however, will aid in the recovery of whatever muscle was loss and keep your body in a state of burning fat as a fuel source.

So I guess the shake I just had of whey, banana, milk, and Pb was a bad choice? Wouldn't u want to keep ur glycogen levels up? I'm not looking to be super lean, just trying to keep adding mass without getting too fat

so if you start with protien only and then only protien before bed. When do you consum your carbs and how much? Middle of the day after a few hour fast? I am trying to cut now and burn as much fat as possible and quick as possible. Got an injusy a while back and then just let myself go. Very sad but true and I'm back at it and training my ass off, but diet has always been my weak point. And the question was perfest as I always wonder the same thing and night time is always when I am most hungry.

thats normal too man, dont beat yourself up. before i start dieting i always have like a two week transition, because from 6pm-9pm i end up breaking down and cheating. the majority of my carbs for me personally, are usually between 9am-2pm. is this how it's supposed too be??? No! there is no right or wrong answer here, every body is it's own entity, and different in the way it responds to nutrient absorption, physical activity, gear protocol, and so on. base it around your activity levels. i train twice a day so leading into my workouts are more carb loaded than others. and carbs aren't bad, these are your primary sources of energy! i could go on forever, but to keep it simple, like i said... carbs around your highest point of activity levels. i dont post threads on here often and try to only chime in on things i can positively contribute too...not just be that asshole that posts on everything. but keep this going, i enjoy talking fitness and nutrition.

Thanks brother. I work nights so for me it's all backwards. I train about a half hour to a hour after I wake up and mostly on an empty stomach. Sometimes a banana so I can take my meds and sups with something in my stomach. That and a preworkout, but then after I shake and then within the hour I eat a good meal with most of my carbs. That is until the weekend when I'm on a day schedule. I end up waking up off and on and eating anything easy so I can get back to bed and that's my downfall. I just destroy what ever I did all week in 2 nights so my plan is to have some things that I should eat ready and waiting. That way I don't end up eating pop tarts and cereal, ect... Any suggestions would be a big help and thanks for taking the time.

no problem man, this is actually what i do for a living! my father has the same problem. big powerlifter back in the day trying to stay in the game and he has a similar schedule. before i even got to that part of your message i was thinking the same. prepped food!!!! cereal is actually great, during the day. i think it's one of the best foods for you, depending the kind. but to load your body with carbs and sugar just to go to bed, spikes your insulin, and gets your body ready to workout, tackle the day, whatever...but you're going back to bed. depending what your budget is like... but i always have chicken in the fridge. protein at hand. thats what you want to nibble on. your body is at rest, therefore the need for carbs and energy is at a low...

I do protein with a good fat. The good fat will help slow the digestion of protein. Usually some almond milk, with whey and peanut butter or a cup of plain nonfat greek yogurt (from Trader joes that has 22 grams of protein), and some peanut or almond butter miixed in. Like others said though, it depends on your goals

I always have a protein shake before bed. I have been on this Rock Hard Challenge workout and diet for 7 weeks. Getting my bf percentage down low as possible before I start my cut cycle.
I know that I am getting off topic here but oh well lol. My current stats are 5'10" tall 190lbs and 9% bf. I started this at 202-204lbs and 14-15% bf. Going well. Ready cutting up nice.
