This study comes from a very large Swedish database that followed all persons born after 1954, who had a brain injury. Traumatic brain injury (assuming the person survived the injury for 6 months), resulted in triple the risk for early death. Concussions, a milder form of brain injury, resulted in double the risk for early death. When you consider that 1.7 million Americans each year go the hospital for brain injuries, this is a major issue.
The cause of early death, in both types of head injury, was suicides or accidents. This means that the perception system in the brain, especially the thalamus gland, has not properly recovered from the injury. This causes physical symptoms to remain, including “cat-on-a-hot-tin-roof” mental health symptoms. Disturbance to the thalamus can easily reduce reflexes during aging, thus making it more difficult to avoid an accident.
I have previously explained the nature of this issue in my article, How to Recover from a Concussion – Athletes Take Note. It isn’t just an issue of the impact area of the brain healing. The subconscious brain must also heal. And nutrition can be of extreme value.

Well I guess I'm pretty much screwed. I have had at least 9 concussions before I was 21 and probably a few that I never went to the Dr for.

hmmmmm. i suppose boxing is not good for my head but i love it so much. but being sedentary will also increase the chance for early death correct? so its a wash?

WOW this head injury stuff is always hard to read about or hear on TV. Back in my thirties I looked around and realized I was in critical care again for the second time in my life. After checking out all the machines and tubes in me I yelled shit not again. No memory of how I got there or what happened. The next thing I remember my wife and 3 young children were standing by my bed I knew they were my family but could only remember the name of my wife. My wife told me I fell off a ladder while at work and my brain is bleeding and filling up with blood and when I pass out they are prepped to drill and release the pressure then she started crying. Any way it was a night mare but with the grace of God I was home in a five days. After months of bed time in a totally dark room I started my life again. I was a mess with seizures, memory wipes, pain so bad I taste blood and felt like my eyes were being pushed out and my whole left side was messed up. After putting up with this for about three months I call my wife and told I have had enough of the pain and was going to drive off the 805 over pass. I was never suicidal before I always figure if something or someone was giving me grief get rid of it or them don’t hurt your self that stupid. My wife talked me home and the next we went to a pain specialist. After months of experiment with different drugs we found a combination that made me function well enough to raise my family. Flash forward I had been on Prozac, serious narcotics and epilepsies medicine for over ten years. I know all the meds were needed but I had had enough and was going to find a way off and my doctor told me no way you can modify but this is your life. I started studying change my diet took supplement and I was able to cut my meds in half. Then Test and HGH, four years it took to get off all my meds but today I am living a normal life.

I am posting because I know we all have health issues and many more serious then mine but I know that God wants us to seek dominion over or bodies and work to over come. The reason we want to be fit is because we are in charge of our flesh and will shape it to our will. We know better than most that the human body repairs itself because we go work out and tear it down so it comes back stronger and faster.

Thanks for having this board as a resource and all you guys are very positive.

This is exactly the type of thing that needs to be heard by the world. If all the people that suffer from pain caused by injury that are turned into no more than prescription zombies so the pharm industry can stay rich only knew that there really is a way to help them instead of just masking the pain. A story like yours is what led me to my 1st cycle. Started with HGH and then test. My best friend growing up was hurt on the job(back) and after 2 surgeries left a drooling on himself as he feel asleep mid sentence. He was not even 30 and seemed to have aged 20 years. They had him on so many meds he could barley hold a conversation. We lost contact for a year or so for various reasons, and then I get a call. It was my best friend again, and not a mush brain voice with no reason. The last time I had seen him I cried on the drive home because I could not believe what had become of this once athletic strong minded person who I consider a brother. He said he was doing great and wanted to get together, so I headed right over. What I saw when I got there is nothing short of a miracle! He had got himself off almost all pain meds, and went from a broken down disabled person to this chiseled strong man who had just got down riding a 250cc dirt bike jumping hills on a track I would never dream of trying. It was like the seen in Captain America when he goes in that box a little weak guy with a strong will, and comes out a strong and powerful hero. That is when he told me he had been taking HGH and some other gear including test, deca, ect. That was all I needed to see. I told him he should be an afternoon special or on 20 20 or something. That he should write a book at least. The world really needs to know what we know! Maybe then people would stop looking at steroids and HGH as this evil drug that people use to cheat, and see what they have the ability to do. He now lives in Cali and tours the world playing drums in a band and surfing when home. From a guy who could not even have sex, to just having his 2nd baby who is a healthy baby boy. I too thank the people of this board and every other forum for all the HELP that they provide. Sorry so long but your story hit home. I am glad that you worked through it brother and god bless!

I've had a number of injuries including head ones. I agree totally with what you guys said. A little aas threapy has helped me come a longggg way. It drasticlly improved the time it took me to get back to normal. I was down to 160 when I got out of the hospital looked like I was barely alive and years later on no medications and back to healthy 250.
