does anyone know a general rule of thumb to go by when converting nutritional information from dry rice to cooked rice? for example, the brown rice i buy states its nutritional info based on 1/4 a cup of dry rice, and i dont know what that converts to as cooked without going and cooking that small amount itself.

the nutrition info doesnt change at all man when you cook it. it expands quite a bit after cooking due to the water so 1/4 dry and 1/4 cooked are going to be different. so going off the dry measure for amounts doesnt change any from cooking. make sense? that's how it was explained to me.

I think he wants to know if he was to cook a big pot of rice how much cooked rice he can eat for 1/4 dry. Most rice nearly triples in size. I use mahatma long grain and 1/4 dry equals 3/4 cooked.

yes, this is what i was getting at. so another way of saying it is 2oz of your mahatma long grain rice is equivalent to 6oz cooked? i was hoping there was a universal weight system i can go by, but it doesnt appear to be that way.

next time i cook rice i'll just do a cup, and measure the whole thing out when im done. multiply that total i get with the serving size listed on the product to get my conversion.

      thanks for the help guys.

that's the thought that just popped into my head. do 1/4 cup dry then cook and remeasure. that will give you how much it makes after being cooked even though it is only 1/4 cup nutritional value wise

It depends on the rice. Most rice doubles in size because it takes 2 times as much water as it does rice....I.e.1 cup rice and 2 cups water. So 1/4 cup would make 1/2 cup.
