I refer patients to abortion clinics all the time. None of us want 3rd trimester abortions. That is vile. My twin sister got pregnant in sophmore year in college even on birth control pills. She aborted in 8 weeks, her boyfriend made it known he was not going to help her and my family was financially destitute. She finished her degree, became a CEO of her own software company, had a natural baby at age 40, adopted a black baby boy at 42, and contributes to society. How the hell she would have done this if she dropped out to raise a baby at age 19, I will never know.

Once again, illegal abortions kill both mother and fetus, at least with legal abortions, we decrease that mortality by 50%. THe issue is much larger because without the ultimate form of birth control ( abortion), most societies don't even allow the lesser form of birth control ( look at pharmacists in rural georgia who won't dispense birth control pills because they don't believe in abortion). Iti s a slippery slope when you outlaw abortion, in fact, I don't know a single society or country that promotes condoms, birth control pills, vasectomies and IUDs as alternative birth controls without abortion being legal

when i meant social evolution it is no different than man escaping earthly calamaties by cutting down trees to build a house and a fire, from starvation by mastering beast and plow, and escaping the bondage of "basic survival": with new technologies so we can reach our potential as scientists, philosphers and artists. By women escaping this biological tyranny of being imprisoned by an unwanted child , it is no wonder the indirect result is a society where women can reach their full potential as a human with brains and skills, no longer being defined by her role as a baby maker. I Social evolution would take a step backwards if we regressed in this way. Once again, I am not arguing on moral grounds here. Social evolution that took us to the Moon also is destroying our earth'S resources and polluting her body.

I am pro life but if it had to be legal, I still thinf it should not be allowed after the second trimester. Many babies survie even at mid way in the second trimester. To abort at this time is just wrong

msot states do not allow abortion after the 1s trimester unless there is a danger to the woman's life.

National Abortion Federation: Women Who Have Abortions

myths and realities. The number one myth we need to dispel is that half of all women getting abortions were on contraception or using contraception at the time they got pregnant. they were not being irresponsible. . A majority of my patients,as in the statistics are women getting their college degree or have had some college education. My clients are mostly caucasian or asian ( but I do practice in a upscale academic clientelle.)

"Most abortions (88%) are obtained in the first trimester of pregnancy. In fact, over half of all abortions are obtained within the first 8 weeks. Fewer than 2% occur at 21 weeks or later"

I also thin that women who do not have any children can not really give a true opinion on what they would do. Once you feel a baby inside of you, I can't imagine going through with that. A baby does not ruin ones life. They are a gift and life may take a different path but it does not mean it ia a bad one.

Trust me, I respect pro-life sentiments now that I have had a child, but even after having a baby, I still support abortion for reasons that are too intangible to be argued on the basis of morality or life vs. death... I look to sociological facts:

From an anthropolgical and sociological perspective, this simple act allows half the population to be free and determine her destiny in her society.

Societies where women are enslaved by their uterus ,their legal and educational stauts is subpar. Societies that define women by their reproduction does not allow them to support themsevles or educate themselves, and women and llittle girls are secondary citizens. When burdened with a family to feed and a husband that dies, these women starve or prostitute themselves and their daughters.
As a Trekie I quote from Spock in The Wrath of Khan " The good of the many outweigh the good of the few." The few are the aborted fetuses, the many is the unshackelling and freedom of half the population of any society so that they can be free to use their "brains" and not their uteruses. In these societies, women who decide to give birth to their daughters know that their daughters standing in society is good and solid, and not degraded into reproductive chattles for men. The quality of life for these daughters are now more assured ( not gauranteed of course)

We almost had to abort my son because he was causing some serious complications and putting risk to my wife. It was a no brainer, I am not losing my wife. Low and behold they found the issue(so long ago I dont recall) and all went well. Of course I am pro-choice but for me its only in the event of it hurting my wife, nothing more. I am pro-choice for other woman too because its better to abort now then to ruin their lives by a mistake. No, abortions should not be used as birth control but in reality its not. Pro-life people skew the stats on abortions so greatly. They claim that Planned Parenthood is an abortion factory. Less than 3% of what they do is abortions, yet they want to cut funding. Yes, cut funding to the place that provides some of the only means of woman health screenings then complain that low income people are unhealthy.

Planned parenthood also do pap smears for my uninsured patients so they can continue to have access to birth control pills. No doctor will write a prescription for birth control pills unless the women are up to date on pap smears. ( whether it is every year or every 3 years depending on HPV status and prior history of abnormal Paps.) My sister adopted a black baby infant whose mother learned about open adoption from planned parenthood .They teach about other options besides abortion for their pregnant patients.....

Very happy to hear this all worked out well. Thank God they found the issue as you can tell, their suggestion to abort would have killed an innoceny baby when in turn everything turned out alright for both Mom and baby. I would be interested in hearing what was wrong though
