I dunno. Im not sure that they work. Im sure the drug companies want you to think otherwise. The more people they can get taking anti depressants, the happier they are.

After my stint in the hospital some years ago my doc put me on Paxil and,..crap one more popular one I cant think of it, I was supposed to be dying so I was getting kinda bummed, but I took them for maby a week and tossed them in the trash. They made me feel emotionless like I wouldn't get happy, sad, or po'd was some really weird stuff. So instead I just stuck to bud, I got to talking to my doc about it, that it took the edge off things and kept me eating an stuff, so now I have a state issued Medical MJ card. I dont need it all the time im in better shape now, I have martial arts, the gym so im doing better than I did some twelve years ago. I just dont think pills are the way to go, even with knee surgery, burns and arthritic pain I wont even take asprin. I know too many people that are hooked on pain killers and anti depressants, they snort'em smoke'em just nasty s#it ! Seems like just an easy fix to a problem is take a damn pill.

They are a band aid solution. I have xanax, zoloft, and one other. I try to address my issues before hand so i don't have to take xanax, however i have a chemical imbalance which is why i take the zoloft. No side effects from it minus the initial fatigue. First week i couldn't stay awake. I slept long and hard during that week and felt like a changed man afterwards. I will be talking to my doctor about weening myself off. It had helped, but i don't like the idea of dependency

Ketamine works wonders. There's a lot of studies you can read up on about how it's used for treating depression. It's fun too

I knew a good bit of people that took them and according to them they worked but everyone around them could tell it wasnt. Seemed to make them like zombies and disconnected from the world.

I think they are prescribed to much but if someone is truly imbalanced, i do believe they help. Although I believe it is trating a symptom and the root cause is raely looked into.

I take Seroquel , Lamotrigine , Wellbutrin xl , Klonopin .. But I tend to not let my depression and medications get me down. I try to keep an up beat attitude about things and if there's something thats really bothering me, then I tell myself that I tried my best and its out of my control and I should just let it go. Some days of course are harder then others when my depression really gets me down and all I want to do is cry. On those days I keep to myself and I'm quiet at least until I can control myself. that way I don't snap at anyone by accident because of my mood.

They are many times worse than the problem they are being used to treat.Plus, too many get addicted to these things and without them their depression far exceeds what they were prscribed for in the first place and can put many in a suicidal state.Ive seen it many times. They get so addicted to these pills and no longer just take them occasionally to help it becomes to the point where they "NEED" them every day or they fall apart.

Im not trying to preach to anyone that may use these things but IMHO there are far better and SAFER ways to combat depression. There are many natural supps and even foods that help this by releasing dopamine in the brain which is basically "your mood hormone".

As MrsD stated as well,I really do believe that your have to focus on beating this depression. The mind is a miracle of the human body and positive thinking can work like magic.I know it sounds like b/s but that what meditation is all about.Learning to control your mind which in turn controls your body.Simply taking a 10-15 minute break each day meditating can work wonders. Its a matter of just telling yourself positive things and placing yourself there and repeating these things over and over again in your mind.By doing this everyday, you'll convince yourself that these things are real and will help alleviate stresses caused by life. This is an old military tactic actually for being able to beat lie detectors. If you tell yourself enough times that something is true,it than becomes true in your mind and subconscious that you actually believe it to be true in the real world.Mind control/meditation,whatever you want to call it,trust me it works.

I would try these things first and stick with them before hopping on any pills that may end up making you worse than before and dependent on them.Meditation, diet, supplementation, even being around positive people with positive energies can be a magical solution to many of your mental woes.

i use xanax once in awhile....more to go to sleep then anything else..... they are probobly useful to some, but over perscribed. i watched them destroy my brothers 30yr marriage when my sis -in-law took them instead of talking and dealing with her stress....she was a case of didnt need and she blew up like a balloon!!! she's just goofier than shyt when she's on them...wild mood swings....just a nut!! she's got issues now, but i dont know what came first....the drugs or the nuttiness!!

xanax is not an anti-depressant though it can becoem quite addictive. I think it is probably better to use short term
