a little set back. January 2014 I had spinal fusion surgery. I went to see my doc Thursday because I was having nerve pain again. he took X-rays and found that 2 of the 4 titanium screws broke. now my bone has shifted back to irritating my sciatic nerve causing a lot of pain. he said he doesn't want to do surgery because he doesn't know how he'd get the screws out and that he'd might have to go through my side instead of my back to get to the location to install new hardware. he said its invasive won't operate. he wanted to refer me to a pain specialist to take pain meds the rest of my life. I said no way. so I'm in the process of getting a second opinion. I think he's too inexperienced to do corrective surgery. I think the screws broke either
because the screws are deductive, they were put in at the wrong angle. or the bone wasn't fully fused when he told me I could return to my normal life activities which was 6 weeks post surgery.

Sorry to hear this bro! I'm sure the right doc can get you fixed up though! Definitely get a second opinion! I had a great doctor from tennessee that did titanium brackets and screws in my spine fusing my l1,l2, and l3 together several years back with very little issues now. You bring so athletic helps a great deal!

Did you have an ortho or neuro surgeon do the surgery? Have a couple names of good neuros if you need them. Where did you have the surgery done at?

thx I might take you up on that offer. I was trying to make an appt with a doc and the receptionist said let me talk to the doctor first to see if he'll take your case. I guessing most docs don't want to deal with a complicated problem. waiting to hear back from the doc.

I have heard that before...docs don't always like to touch someone else surgery work, but there has to be some out there that Re compassionate enough too? My Dad sees an excellent one at Loyola and Fuzo had his fusions at LGH. Sometimes you have to travel, you know. I had my hip surgery at a Rush group that was excellent.

This is just my advice but if you do see another doc for a second opinion, bring your scans, op report etc. and I wouldn't mention at all what this other doc said. Get a completely new opinion. At least this is how I go about things.

I had my kidney surgery there and also have seen many docs from there.
