I've been told over and over I would be a good personal trainer because of my looks, I'm tall and I seem to be in shape. This past weekend I could have signed up a couple. I'm thinking of doing this part time and eventually leaving the Technology field. Has anyone taken this test I heard its a long course.

I don't want to be an online coach I want to be an in-person training coach eventually I would love to train people aspiring to compete. I love the science and mechanics behind working out when I was 15 I wanted to be a Sports Nutrition doctor so I've always had the passion for this kind of thing.

I've been in the fashion modeling industry so that would also help pull in some clients what you guys think?

I would start out very slow and gradually moving into this industry over let's say five to eight years.

haha, good luck brother. i love doing it but i hate people and dealing with them. that's the hardest part and 99% of your clients will not be motivated driven individuals looking to compete and 9 out of 10 times those will be garbage lying pieces of crap as well. you will find that you will only get one out of say 20 that are good and a pleasure to work with. i have done it and can make a killing doing it but i have a hell of a hard time dealing with people b i t ching whining complaining and not putting forth the effort then when they arent seeing results in 2 weeks they blame you. that's just me and my personal experience. i do work with some people in person and also online as well still and i have some great people but making a living off of it, just isnt my cup of tea. i love doing it and love the approach just like you do but like i said 99% of everyone looking for it do not like we do. i also wouldnt spend an ass load of money getting a college degree in the field unless you want to work at a university or something like that. see what cert you need for the gym you plan on working out of and go with that.

also read up on the articles on elitefts about the business side of training. their is a ton of great info on there about the subject and business approach to it. good luck man, i hope you have an ass ton of patience and ability to deal with bad mouthing you when you gave them a hundred percent and they are the ones that fucked it up and not you. that's what you are going to see and it's unfortunate that no one can hold themselves accountable and take responsibility for what they do and dont do. i have friends that still do it full time and i feel bad for them but most have completely went back to their original jobs at this point and just mess around on the side like i do. i have extensive interview process that i go through with people for in person work and even then if i bring them on it's on a probabational period of time. you will see my friend and hopefully you can do it but for me i couldnt have my name tainted for shit i didnt do and also it hurts your ability to coach competitors when fuckheads try to make you look bad. then again it also weeds out a lot of the shit heads that you dont want but that also costs you money if that's what you are relying on. lucky for me, i dont need the money and get to pick and choose who i work with. keep us posted on how it goes though

Wow that doesnt make training sound very fun but I assumed there would be alot of turnover and hard to please people. It sounds like doing this part time would be the best option while continuing my career in the technology field. Most coaching stuff I see on social media is horrible I know the industry is full of dishonest and shady people claiming to be trainers. I have to pursue this because its my number one passion in life and I feel i could do well at it.

My next step is finding some practice Nasm tests to see where my knowledge is.

brother you dont have to be a nasm trainer. you can do issa or a host of others as well as long as where you plan on working accepts that cert. i have nasm issa and 2 other ones because i have worked out of a few different places. no point in spending a ton of money on nasm and having to travel to test if you dont have to.
i agree with you about the shady and dishonest thieves running around and it is my passion as well. it's not you that will cause the bad taste for the work, it will be the people that hire you that will drive you bat shit crazy. i train at about 6 or 8 different facilities in my city with friends that own and run a couple of them. all of which are certified and train people. one of the facilities is a special operations training facility which i love to go to. they have college and pro sports level strength and conditioning coaches that are trainers at that facility. yes the gov brings those guys in to work with spec ops people and their families. sad thing is, i still see them going through the motions and doing dumb shit with people that dont want to put out or perform. so they give them what they want. my buddy runs that one and another buddy and his wife run a private facility as well. so i get to see the whole range of different levels of both trainer and clients. it's actually pretty cool and i have been offered to take over and run one of them but i wont do it, i actually coach the one guy that owns the private facility.
i think your choice to go part time is a wise choice and maybe you can transition over to going at it 100%. that would be bad ass if you could man. i love it and enjoy doing it so much. it is just to much bs for me to weed through and deal with knowing that i dont have to do it to put food on the table.
another cool thing depending on where you are working and their rules is setting your own rates. once you are established and in demand you pick your fees. when i was wide open i charged up to 65 bucks an hour for 3 sessions or less per week with a month contract. that's good money
