Wow that doesnt make training sound very fun but I assumed there would be alot of turnover and hard to please people. It sounds like doing this part time would be the best option while continuing my career in the technology field. Most coaching stuff I see on social media is horrible I know the industry is full of dishonest and shady people claiming to be trainers. I have to pursue this because its my number one passion in life and I feel i could do well at it.

My next step is finding some practice Nasm tests to see where my knowledge is.

brother you dont have to be a nasm trainer. you can do issa or a host of others as well as long as where you plan on working accepts that cert. i have nasm issa and 2 other ones because i have worked out of a few different places. no point in spending a ton of money on nasm and having to travel to test if you dont have to.
i agree with you about the shady and dishonest thieves running around and it is my passion as well. it's not you that will cause the bad taste for the work, it will be the people that hire you that will drive you bat shit crazy. i train at about 6 or 8 different facilities in my city with friends that own and run a couple of them. all of which are certified and train people. one of the facilities is a special operations training facility which i love to go to. they have college and pro sports level strength and conditioning coaches that are trainers at that facility. yes the gov brings those guys in to work with spec ops people and their families. sad thing is, i still see them going through the motions and doing dumb shit with people that dont want to put out or perform. so they give them what they want. my buddy runs that one and another buddy and his wife run a private facility as well. so i get to see the whole range of different levels of both trainer and clients. it's actually pretty cool and i have been offered to take over and run one of them but i wont do it, i actually coach the one guy that owns the private facility.
i think your choice to go part time is a wise choice and maybe you can transition over to going at it 100%. that would be bad ass if you could man. i love it and enjoy doing it so much. it is just to much bs for me to weed through and deal with knowing that i dont have to do it to put food on the table.
another cool thing depending on where you are working and their rules is setting your own rates. once you are established and in demand you pick your fees. when i was wide open i charged up to 65 bucks an hour for 3 sessions or less per week with a month contract. that's good money
