Tuesday
Basketball
Kind of a bad decision to play. My legs were not feeling it. My knees hurt, legs were sore, and just felt tired. I noticed while we were playing that I wasn't using my feet to move and a lot of times I was bending at my hips and reaching which is never a good sign. Even when I was sprinting it didn't feel like I was at full speed. So on top of that the temperature was in the 90's and the humidity was through the roof. So we play at a local school and there isn't ceiling fans and there was no a/c on at 8 at night so it was crazy hot. Everyone was dying and we even had to keep rotating balls because they were getting so much sweat on them and becoming slippery. Today I may skip the jump rope to give my legs a day of rest.
Wednesday
Flat bench 4 sets
Side lateral raise 4 sets
Reverse rope extension 4 sets
Incline bench superset with rear delt fly superset with rope extension 3 sets
Chest press machine 4 sets
I was eager to get back in the gym. It's felt like forever since I've been there. But I was still super sore, tired, and worn out. The workout was decent. Bench felt good but weight wasn't super heavy. Side lateral raise though was pretty heavy and felt good. I didn't do any jump rope and did some extra chest. I didn't want to shoulder press because I knew I wanted to do a little incline so the front delts weren't super important. My cardio was just walking on the treadmill with a medicine ball. I also cut grass after the gym which added to the cardio session a bit. Also had a nice stretch session last night and rolled on a lacrosse ball alittle.
Thursday
Squat 4 sets
Weighted pull up 4 sets
BB curl 4 sets
Jump rope superset with chest pad t bar row, DB side steps, and DB hammer curl 3 sets
Wall balls 4 sets
Felt much better today than the day before. Energy levels were back up. Knees were still in pain when walking up steps but once they were warm I didn't really feel them anymore. I did want to do some agility style things. So besides the side steps which I go slow and steady with I also threw in a similar movement but with a medicine ball and moved quicker as part of the cardio. I was also on the treadmill when I looked over and noticed behind one of the machines that I could probably slide behind it and do wall balls. So I went over and did some sets, I liked it. I think the wall balls could really help with conditioning but also with basketball since the movement was like an over the top shot in basketball.
Keep pushin!
Saturday
DB curl superset with rope extensions 4 sets
EZ bar close grip curl superset with BW dips 4 sets
EZ bar wide grip superset with underhand extension 4 sets
Overhand extension 3 sets
Jump rope superset with a lot of different cardio type sessions including, ladder runs, medicine ball side steps, wall balls
It was a good workout, the lifting was fine but I also wanted to do some basketball type things. My legs have been sore and tired but I wanted to try get them loose and warm. It was fun and frustrating at the same time. The workout started really well with jump roping and as I got winded that all went to crap. I was catching my feet super fast but all in all I accomplished what I wanted.
Sunday
Basketball
This is quickly becoming my favorite basketball day. Tuesday I play with some of my closer friends but the other guys who come kind of suck. Sunday is more a relaxed game but still get in good cardio sessions. I get to play with my brother on Sunday too which is cool. We put in a good 2 and half hour session.
Monday
Deadlift 4 sets
Leg press 4 sets
DB curl 4 sets
Jumprope superset with wall balls, seated high cable close grip row, and DB hammer curl 3 sets
My knees were in some pain from last week and the weekend but I figured they would get warm and I wouldn't really feel it. Which is exactly what happened, I didn't notice any knee pain once I was warmed up and ready to go. The workout went well for the beginning. Leg press did hurt a little on the knees but I went really heavy. It went a bit down hill during the wall balls when the ball hit a lip on the wall and then hit the lip and nose on my face. No injury, just wasn't pleasant, also the ball hit my hand in a way that hurt my thumb that I jammed a few weeks ago. Nothing major and overall the workout was enjoyable.
Knees sore this morning, hopefully I can get it warmed up for basketball and maybe take the next few days off of jumping rope and do something with less impact for my cardio.
Take care of those knees and maybe roll those IT bands out? OUCH!
Tuesday
Basketball
My knee was sore all day. I usually wear 3/4 compression pants and wanted to give them up for last night. However my knee was so sore that I decided to wear them again. I'm glad I did but I didn't notice any pain once we started going. The game was good but either the game was slower or my cardio is drastically better because I didn't wear get winded at all. After the game I felt good too. My feet weren't dying and I didn't have any aches or pains. When I woke up in the middle of the night though, it was much different, my big toe hurt, both knees were in pain, and ankles were rough to even go down the steps. I don't want to take time off from the gym, but a less impact style of cardio is in the works for a few days. I also need to remember to foam roll tonight for my back and throw on a compression sleeve at night to help with recovery.
Wed,Thurs,Sat,Sun
I usually do my updates at work in the morning but because of my new position we had some special assignments to do for the week. I
I didn't miss any gym trips. I played basketball on Sunday, Tennis on Thursday, but also hit the gym, Wed, Thurs, and Sat.
Everything is going well, knees feel better. They were still sore up until Sunday morning. I played ball and don't really have any pain right now on them so I'm happy with that. I feel like I have slimmed down even more over the last week or so which is good. I would hope I really start seeing more leaning. I went from 5 days of work to 6 days and that extra day is 2 hours of basketball.
Either way I'll get back to normally logging soon.
Mon and Tues
Went to the gym both days. I'm slipping with this new assignment but luckily today is the last day of it and I can get my typing time back.
Anyway gym has been good, exercising feel good. Almost killed myself on Monday when I failed on a bench press set but other than that, not to bad. I've been foam rolling and using a lacrosse ball everynight for the last 3 or 4 nights to help with the leg pain. Legs don't hurt as much when I foam roll as they did but this morning my knees are bothering me a bit.
Since there was no basketball this Tuesday, today is my cardio day which I haven't had a strictly cardio day lately so I'm kind of up in the air on what I want to do. Maybe if my knees loosen up a bit I can do some jump rope and what not but if they are in pain i'll just do some LISS and call it a day.
Wednesday
Cardio
Jump rope
Treadmill
Most of the cardio was jump rope with some other things thrown in like medicine ball slams or walking with the medicine ball and either passing it around my back or holding it on my finger tips above my head. Then I finished the session with some walking on the treadmill. I also hit up a park on my way home and shot some baskets.
I know most of the sites I on are bodybuilding sites but personally I'm having more fun training for my basketball games and trying to improve athletically that's helping my physique than I did when I was just working out to look better. That's just me but it has allowed me to try and do exercises that I would never consider if I was still focused on just a regular bodybuilding routine.
Thursday
Side lateral raise 4 sets
Reverse Peck deck 3 sets
Incline bench 4 sets
V bar extension 4 sets
Jump rope superset with peck deck and underhand extension 3 sets
Floor press superset with rope extension superset with ez bar high row 3 sets
I wasn't sure how this workout was going to go. My right shoulder was bothering me all day at work. Felt like I hurt something and it was kind of numb or something. I didn't notice it much in terms of pain during the workout. However the incline bench sucked, I didn't feel like I had any strength during the workout. The rest of the workout wasn't bad though. I wanted to do dips but with the shoulder I figured I could throw them in my arm training on Saturday and see how it goes.
Since I've been playing basketball on Sundays. Fridays are like a dream for me. Today is an off day and each week I feel like I really need it. I probably could use 2 days off but with yesterdays workout not being the best I'll probably still go on Saturday.
