The subversive, campy, pop-art take on Batman in the '60s TV series so impressed20th Century Fox that it had a film shot and released before the second season aired. Atthe time, audiences skipped the movie because it was just an extended episode. These days,that’s exactly what makes it special. All of the classic villains from the showcombined for a single dastardly plot on the caped crusader that was so wild, he finallyhad to bust out that can of Bat Shark Repellent. There isn’t a moment in the filmthat isn’t completely absurd, but at the time, that was even true of the comicbooks. Adam West and Burt Ward were and always will be an astoundingly hilarious versionof Batman and Robin, backed by camp humor that works for knowing adults without detractingfrom the goofball action fun for children.
