Yesterday we moved a coop in with 8 chickens. We got them for free because the people that had them before were forced to get rid of them for where they lived. So we said what the hell.
Now we get about 7 fresh eggs a day. They are actually very little work. The freshness is unbelievable. Most eggs you buy in the the store are weeks old. We'll see how it goes.
Thats cool bra ! I used to have some myself. An old gfs' mom had three reds in a lil box with a screen and brick ! I was pissed bigtime !! just clumped with dried poop and their feet where kinda bent from being in that lil box. I cleaned'em up and made a nice coup for them, they where beautiful birds. everyday they would greet me when I came home, I loved them so much. Then I got some more, some rocks, a lil banty and a another red rooster. one day a hawk got a hold of spike, my rooster. Then the others. My heart sunk when I came home and seen them lying allover the yard, lucy one of the hens I saved was still alive but had to be put down. I was crushed... needless to say my gf filled the red hawk with her lil 38sp and in the burn barrel it went. Just make sure you keep that coupe wired shut, this hawk found one lil hole to squeeze through and that was it. sad story, but I made sure they where happy and didn't have to suffer and live the rest of their lives in that little box.
Leaders did what others weren't willing to do, now they enjoy the things that others do not.
Yeh it's completely wired up good, the people that had them before had a problem with racoons getting them so they made sure I had it secure. I also built a long wide completely inclosed run attached to the coop. The one even lays green and blue colored eggs. No kidding.
