Health Tip: Am I Just Tired...
Or do I have chronic fatigue syndrome?
(HealthDayNews) -- Most people get tired and depressed at times, but the mystery known as chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) describes much more than the normal ups and downs of everyday life.
According to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, an early sign of the illness is a noticeable fatigue that begins suddenly and sometimes never stops. Patients often feel too tired to do normal activities, and are easily exhausted for no reason.
But unlike the mind fog of a serious hangover -- to which researchers have compared the disease -- sleep does not banish the weakness of CFS.
No one knows what causes CFS, and doctors often find it difficult to diagnose because it has the same symptoms as many other diseases.
If you have CFS, health experts recommend that you eat a balanced diet, get adequate rest, and exercise regularly. Be sure to pace yourself physically, emotionally and intellectually, because too much stress can aggravate your symptoms.
