The Raw Unity qualifier was her first powerlifting meet ever. Powerlifter Taylar Stallings, her boyfriend and her CrossFit coach all encouraged her to do the meet because they believed she was strong for her size. Melissa weighed in at 43.3kg (95.3lbs) and hadn't trained specifically for powerlifting at all, so she didn't know what to expect. The only method of training she's ever done is CrossFit (for the past 2 years).
