    Re: Road to strongman competition

Here is a listing of last years events. Should be similar.

09:00 AM: Weigh in and Registration
All lightweight must be available for weigh-in at 9:00AM, Open weigh-in is optional, but MUST register.

    10:30 AM: Athletes’ Rules Meeting

    11:00 AM: Presentation of Athletes

    11:05 PM: Farmers Walk
The athletes competing pairs will each attempt to lift and carry Giant Farmers Walk implements (135kg/~300lb each for Open; 120Kg/265lb for Lightweights) for as long a distance as possible. No set downs or additional pick-up allowed. No grip aids other than chalk allowed. Longest distance wins. The athletes will have 30 seconds time limit to pick up but otherwise no time limit.

12:15 PM: Axle Clean and Press (Jerk)
The athletes competing in pairs and in reverse order of overall standing will attempt to clean and press/jerk a plate loaded axle (2 inch diameter; ~285lb for Open; ~240lb for Lightweights) overhead for as many repetitions as possible. Athletes must await Referee’s down signal before lowering axle under some control. Referee may disallow an otherwise good lift if the implement is thrown or otherwise abused. The athletes will have 60 seconds time limit to complete as many lifts as possible. Athletes will be allowed to complete a lift if it is commenced (i.e. off the ground) within the time limit.
01:15 PM: Giant Wheel Dead Lift
The athlete in reverse order of overall standing will attempt to dead lift Axle (1.5 inch diameter axle; ~17 inches off the ground) and Wheels (~705lb for Open; ~550lb for Lightweights). The athlete will have 60 seconds time limit to complete as many lifts as possible. Athletes will be allowed to complete a lift if is commenced (i.e. off the ground) within the time limit. Athletes must await Referee’s down signal before lowering axle under some control. Dropping the weights will result in “no lift”. Straps allowed, but lifting suits NOT allowed.

    3:30 PM: Super Yoke
The athletes competing in pairs and in reverse order of overall standing will each attempt to lift and carry a Yoke (~800lb for Open; ~660lb for Lightweights) on their shoulders for ~132 feet/40m (total) up and back. started a topic Road to strongman competition

    Road to strongman competition

Looks like its time to start a workout thread. I have never competed in any weightlifting sports so its all going to be new. Never been to a strongman event, but love watching them on tv. Time to change all this.

First event in mind will be on June 29-30, which gives me a solid 6 months to get my strength up. Ill be starting a new workout routine that is geared more towards the events.

As of right now my stats are
235lbs(need to drop to under 230 otherwise I compete against the big boys)
    5'9"

Bench is weak, but its not an event. 315lbs x 1

Deadlift without straps no belt 545 x 1

squat no belt no knee wraps 495 x 1

    Overhead push press is 225 x 3

I have a lot of work to do. Need to increase grip strength, have to find some sort of way to do atlas balls, and yoke walk. Also will need to work on my clean.

Ill try to update after each workout and just make this an ongoing log.
    Enjoy.
