Something happen to my truck

TweetIve never ever had a problem with it ever 5yur old truck Ford Xplorer. Yesterday my wife left to go to the store and when she came out she turned the key heard the dddddddddddd pop and then it just went dead. Now all the lights radio seat belt ringer works. It just doesnt start and when you turn the key nothing. But when she first got in there it went dddddddddd pop then nothing

TweetWhen you try to crank it, does the starter even turn over? If it just spins and spins, then it may have jumped time.

Tweethuh...we call them exploders at the dealership too...but not becouse they are problems...just a play on words. kinda like GM is government motors. anyway...i dont know of any inherant probs with the explorer's jumping time! o2 was the first time i ever heard of a explorewr jumping time, and never since. sad part is, none of us can see it and we really have no clue of the prob. it could be numourus things...get it too a shop. if you need major parts, go here...

TweetWas it an electrical pop or a mechanical pop? Sounds like you might have blown some fuses. But if I tried to crank then a pop it could be in the engine. You could put chocks behind the wheels and put the trans in neutral and try turning the crank bolt. If it will turn then the engine isn't locked up.

I don't know much about Ford's, but on the GMs I have had, if it was the key fob then the car would just keep turning over without starting. Is that what's going on?

Tweetyeah, the "Exploder" thing is coast-to-coast, obviously. I never heard of one actually exploding. cept for yours now, 02. and that wasn't really a "blown-up" motor, as usually referred to for throwing something through the block, intake, or something.

Fords don't start with the FOB like allot of later model Dodges, and I'm assuming GMs by your statement tn94z. They have the FOB, and the ignition key has an independant chip inside it too.

Hopefully it was an electrical "pop", and it can be easily found with a diagnostics test. Somewhere in the ignition.

That's what I mean. The fob (or chip in the key) is just a resistor that has to match the resistance in the BCM (GM) and if it doesn't, it won't start. I have had them before that we just cleaned really well and it fixed it. But you have to be lucky for that to be it. But my experience is GM only so take that for what it's worth
